I never owned a cat in my life until 3yrs. ago....I was sure missing
out. As I type this the faithful love of my life "Silas" sits atop
my crowded desk. When the rest of the world just seems completely
nuts I know why cats were put on this planet.
Wish I could post his picture hes beautiful!!
Trying to get photobucket so i can.

10. Why thank you!
I like to say I am gradually becoming one of those creepy old people with a zillion cats, but the truth is I have a couple of young cats (Logan and Mischief) and the rest are seniors.

But I love them all. Mariko is my oldest and she's about ready to turn 18 this year. She has been a friend to me all my adult life and I will miss her terribly when she is gone.

Mischief is my newest. He was a rescue from the shelter that I nagged the better half for almost a month before he relented and I don't regret him either. (He's watching the cursor right now...must know I am talking about him).

2. Of course we are
Because we're compassionate, strong-willed and empathetic people, who like the company of our fellow brethren on this planet we call home. It doesn't always have to be our kitties, but you will often find that kitties are far more selective in the company they keep than many other animal species, because they, too, are intelligent beings.

I think also that we probably like them cause they're soft and cuddly, and the purring puts us in a mellow mood. :)

7. I'd Like to See a Study of Political Affiliation & Pet Ownership
I'd bet serious money that most RWers (especially the males) prefer dogs, having nothing but disdain for cats. They don't like animals (or people) that are independent, that don't obey every command, and that they can't dominate. I think a phony-baloney machismo is at work here too...it was probably a freeper who came up with the term 'pussy,' used synonymously for 'wimp.' They could never allow themselves to show affection for a cat. Poor bastards! I almost feel sorry for them. Almost.

13. Our neighbor is an Ultra Neo-Con and he has this German Shepherd
who comes into our yard just to shit. When we yell at to "Get out of here" it actually turns around and barks at us! In our yard! Typical repug-type dog.

Naturally, they don't own any kitties.

14. Hummm....I have to disagree...I'm a male and I sure don't like cats.
And I'm pretty damn liberal and out there. It's totally personal, but cats are just absolutely boring to me. Maybe it's their "independence," but realistically its their hunting/range behavior makes them that way. Dogs by their nature are pack animals and extremely social. I like an animal that likes to be around other animals. Most small cats by their evolutionary structure aren't even the least social (and I'm pretty sure my landlord won't let me have a pride of lions in my apartment. :D )

Interesting that you make that point, because I always assumed dogs were the ideal Dem and Progressive pet. Always open, friendly, extraordinarily social, they have quick adaptive behavior, and always willing to play and have fun.

15. Exactly!
Cats are the greatest. Here's to Dot, Snowball (a.k.a. Snowbutt, the Dude, Fuzzball), and Miss Minnie (17 years young!).

17. Maybe, but who cares? We certainly aren't hurting anybody
I discovered another abandoned kitty in my neighborhood, today. My neighbor gave me a call, worried about a cat who had been hanging out in her neighbor's yard, across the street. She was afraid that this cat had been abandoned. Her husband must had told her about my cat, who was also abandoned, and tough to finally bring in. I eventually had to use a have-a-heart trap to do it and he walks his dogs all over, so had seen my cat. She brought food, as did I, but she first noticed the cat because he/she was dragging this huge squirrel across the street. She is now guarding the tail, which is all that is left. I prefer not to think about that. I checked at 12:30am and the food was moved, so I know that my neighbor is checking. I am reluctant to check, since this is in another neighbor's yard. The cat I rescued came to me. I am just worried now, since it has started raining. When I fed my cat, still outside, she knew to come to the porch. It took me four months to bring her in. At least it is not winter and this cat is not nearly as skittish, but I still feel so bad. We talked to her (we think it's a her; her husband, who has also fed and watered this cat, thinks it's a he) and she cried so terribly, ripping our hearts out. The thing is, this a beautiful cat, tri-color, long-haired, green eyes, big fluffy tail, but thin. I have a can of tuna ready for tomorrow, and I am glad that my neighbors are also keeping watch, this time. Poor lost kitty. I just don't understand how people can behave this way and neither can she.;(
