So, which musical acts shall I see this month?
Ya see, the Austin City Limits Music Festival is Sept. 19-21. http://www.aclfestival.com/ But, it's at Zilker Park, which is a complete pain in the ass to negotiate when crowded. Also, the sets by the artists will be short. A lot of the artists are playing club gigs during the evening after they perform at the festival.

So, I'm wondering...who should I see?

On Sept. 19th - Old 97's or Lucinda Williams?

On Sept. 20th - Drive By Truckers? The Mavericks? Ween?

I'm so torn!

Sometimes, life in Austin is just too f***ing good! :P

1. It's just not fair
You get to see these guys all the time anyway. I don't think there is better place on the planet for music than Austin.

7. Lucinda, Ween and try to fit in Steve Earle
Don't accidentally wander in to someplace where everyone has a big belt buckle, does the Boot Scootin' Boogie and the band thinks that an arpeggio is "That storybook fella with the big nose that grows when he tells a lie."

8. I think I'm gonna do the club shows.
I thought about the 3-day pass, but that's a little stiff for my budget this month.

I haven't decided on who I want to see though. I just saw DBT last month, so The Mavericks sound like an interesting choice there. If I was to see the festival shows, I'd like to see Jay Farrar again and Steve Earle and ... and...:dropdead:

10. I can see both Lucinda and Ween!
They are on different nights.

The sad part is that money is a little tight this month. :-(

11. What an incredible lineup at the festival.
Edited on Thu Sep-04-03 03:35 PM by GumboYaYa
I am going to check out flights to Austin tonight.

Here are some recommendations from me off the festival schedule:

Galactic, Robert Randolph & Family, and North Mississippi All Stars are all must see acts. They are some of the best live bands playing these days IMO.

Rebirth will blow you away if you have never seen them.

Charlie Hunter Trio, Charlie Hunter is one of the best guitar players on Earth. He plays an eight string guitar and plays the bass and lead lines at the same time. It is amazing.

Jack Johnson is one of my favorite musicians. He is a little more mellow than some of the other acts but I stll love him.

I would wade through a river of cow manure to get to that festival.

If I weren't still recovering from Bumbershoot, I'd be jealous. That is one awesome lineup.

13. Is Robert Earl coming?
He's around here this month (Athens, Greenville, Charlotte, Charleston, Newberry, Carrboro); I may have to sell some plasma and go.
