SLC bound 9/14-- what to do?
I'm heading to Salt Lake City, 9/14-9/19, for a training program. I should have a couple of nights free, though. Any ideas of what to do, where to eat, etc. while I'm there?

Thanks.

1. SLC bound 9/14--what to do?
I do a fair number of layovers in SLC with my airline job. Will you be downtown?

There are a couple of good microbrewery/restaurants in the downtown area...best IMO are Red Brick and Squatters.

Near the west edge of town is an outdoor mall (I believe called "Gateway" or something like that) that has shopping and eateries. The Delta Center is nearby - worth checking to see what events might be going on while you're there. A couple of blocks north of the Delta Center is a school campus (not sure of the name) with an outdoor track if you want to get some running in. Some of the neighborhoods east of downtown are good for running in also.

If you're into nightlife, most bars/clubs require a membership, though I understand you can purchase a temporary one for a reasonable cost (your first round will probably cost you double) or find a member in there that is willing to "sponsor" you.

If you have transportation, Park City is a great ski/resort community about 30 minutes east of town. Very picturesque, with good places to eat. Go south from there and you can visit Robert Redford's Sundance resort. Sometimes there is live music there on weekends.

Hope this at least gives you some ideas.

Dave

2. Thanks! And welcome to DU!
I'll be downtown, and in fact I will be attending a training session or two at the Delta Center.

I'm not sure what I'll have in the way of transportation, but I'll look into it. Public transit's usually an option.

3. the New Yorker restaurant
its right downtown. a 'little' pricy but good eats.

if you have time, rent a car and drive up the canyon to Park City / Deer Valley. a must see while you are out there.

5. Delta Center! That's where I "worship" when I go to SLC. (wink)
Because that is where My Personal God had a job until he retired. <sniffle...> Here I am in the Delta Center at the Salute to Stockton Event June 7, '03, literally kissing the ground he walked on.

The Gateway complex right behind the Delta Center has a new planetarium that just opened this spring. SLC's public transp. system is called TRAX and its' very good. You can take TRAX to Univ. of Utah and go to the zoo or the museum. Temple Square is interesting for a walk through and the LDS Genealogy library has an intersting orientation.

I love SLC. I have met some great people there and Sean Reynolds is the one who told me about DU.
