Update on Mom (breast cancer surgery today)
Hi, folks. Thanks again for your support (I sound like Bartles & Jaymes) regarding the discovery of my mother's cancer, but I need y'all again today.

She's being prepped now and surgery is due to begin in about an hour. They'll probably keep her overnight (only a one night stay after cancer surgery - amazing), after which she'll be staying with her brother in Cleveland until her follow-up appointment next week.

At that point, my sister & I are picking her up -- she's going to have six weeks of radiation treatment here in Cincinnati, so she'll be staying with us.

Anyway, she just turned 65 and has a history of blood clotting problems, so any time she goes under the knife (she already has once for the exploratory surgery), it's a little spooky. Thoughts and/or prayers are appreciated. Thanks, DU.

8. UPDATE
Surgery started at 11:45, not 11:00, so news for us was a little slow.

She was attended to by 2 surgeons, one who removed the cancerous tissue, followed by a plastic surgeon who did whatever necessary reconstruction.

She's in the recovery room now, and the doctors say everything went very well. Everything goes to plan, she'll only stay overnight at the Clinic and then go home with family.

Thanks, everybody.

11. True story regarding my mom.
When she was 72 years old she was diagnosed with lung cancer. They excised the tumor from her lung, along with that lobe of her lung. The doctors told my brother that she probably had 6 months to live. They did not prescribe chemo or radiation. She died, but it was 22 years later at age 94, and NOT of lung cancer.

Just a little story to give you some hope, because cancer is not always a death sentence.

My mom's had breast cancer twice, and is currently battling peritoneal cancer, so I know what you are going through. Sounds like she is good hands, though.
