For newbies (mostly): The 2d DU2 "What's your screenname mean?" thread
You know, if we were shrewd, we'd all put this in the comments section of the Profile. Maybe they should add a slot to the profiles for "My screenname means..."

Until then we'll do it this way. What's your story? Due to the Newest Member feature, I've been seeing a lot of excellent new screennames, but often have to wonder what they mean. Here's your chance to share.

PS: Mine is still just a reference to Cheney. My location is fully disclosed.

I'm a huge fan of his, and when I'm high or when I trip I LOVE to get naked in the rain. My friends put 2 and 2 together and the name stuck.

5. hair color + ancestry
I have flame-colored, coppery hair. And, my ancestors were Vikings who settled off the eastern coast of Scotland on a small island and began intermarrying with said Scots. There is even an island in the Firth of Forth named after my ancestors. And, although we did not have a clan of our own, we enjoyed the protection of the Macdonald clan, so I can proudly display their colors. Being a chick I can't sport one of those snappy short kilts, but women have longer kilts that serve the same purpose.

Pillaging schedule to follow shortly.

6. Not a newbie either
Tlaloc = the Aztec god of rain and water (Spanish was one of my majors - I don't have THAT big of an ego to liken myself to a god, and Huitzilopochtli takes too long to type)

The W is for my last name. There are a lot of Tlaloc's on the net.

8. Fairly new, but
. . . Lurking for awhile.

I have a habit of prefixing my surname's initial to the topic/object under discussion (gives me a little thrill of "ownership") -- a guilty pleasure, I suppose.

I think of myself as a center-of-center kinda guy. A little left on some things, a little right on others.

Hence, K-Centrist.

Of course, since the shrieking wingnuts started moving the goalposts, I guess I'm way out in left field. Nice to talk to people who're comfortable out here.

Devils Advocate NZ Donating Member (1000+ posts) Send PM | Profile | Ignore Wed Sep-03-03 12:34 PM

13. Mine is sort of obvious...
A Devils Advocate (as most people know) is someone who argues in defense of an oposing side or position - even when he or she doesn't necessarily believe it - in order to work towards a full understanding of the issue being argued. This in a way describes me in that I will argue against what I see as an incorrect argument, even if I believe the premise that the argument is being made in favour of.

For example, I will often defend Dean against smear tactics, even though I am not really a Dean supporter. Hell, I'm probably one of the most leftist people here, and from my perspective Dean is closer to Lieberman than to me. It's just that I hate to see stupid arguments go unanswered.

But there is another less obvious meaning of Devils Advocate to me - the right wing see our beliefs as being satanic, so by defending my beliefs I am in their minds literally the devils advocate.

The NZ part at the end is simply because when I tried to sign up as Devils Advocate, someone had already used it (and I believe got tombstoned but I may be wrong there) so I had to add something, and I figured why not make it clear that I am from New Zealand?

Like I said, kind of obvious really.

And I live in Georgia, though not a native.

One of his sons was named Jump the Shadow.

31. WELL I'M GLAD YOU ASKED
Tarnations!

I make music videos, anime music videos to be specific.

And I go by the studio name of 'NekoChris Productions'

NekoChris comes from:

1) Neko means Cat in Japanese
2) My name is Chris
3) I try to have all my videos have their own unique cat-boy on the opening logo that pertains to whatever video footage the video uses.

The cat boy always carrys a Rouge the Bat plush from Sonic Adventure 2(GameCube, DreamCast, etc.)

And THEN when I go to conventions that I enter my music videos into, I try to go around with cat ears, cat tail, and carrying my real Rouge the Bat plush.

Hopefully, someone will go:

'Hey, that looks exactly like the catboy in the logo of that music video, he even has the same doll. OH SNAP IT IS THE SAME GUY HEY I LOVED YOUR VIDEO!'

32. I last posted what my screen name meant 2 hours before
we switched to D2.

So, here it is again. My cousins lived on a farm when I was kid and we visited often. I loved all the animals and things that were so different than the city. They had a slew of cats and one dog, name of Zeke, who ran that farm like the cruel merciless bastard that he was. One day, when I visiting, Zeke hunted down a cat (which I particularly liked) and screwed it viciously. The next time we visited I asked my cousin where the cat was. He said she was pregnant and having her kittens under the barn. She did come out later, but with no kittens. My little 9 year old mind couldn't comprehend what on earth that concoction would look like. I eventually figured out that she didn’t have horribly mutated cat-dogs, but I have toyed with the idea of what they might have materialized as.

With *, I found my answer – hence the screen name.

33. Well...
Lantern Waste is the first region introduced in C.S. Lewis' "Chronicles of Narnia. Lucy steps through the wardrobe and enters a snowy and beautiful realm and is soon introduced to Mr. Tumnus, the satyr who tells her about the realm of Narnia and the spell it's under due to the White Witch.

I'm a sucker for those books...lol.

34. We have a beloved mutt
who is shepherd/collie/chow/something/something/something. 50 lbs, short-ish hair. He's an extremely good looking mix. When people stop and admire him and ask "what kind of dog is that?" we simply say "he's a Medium Brown Dog." We think he's only medium in size because we also have two other dogs, 70 and 85 lbs respectively.
