What a day (philosophy is gonna be cool) warning beginning sucks
I went to philosophy err what I thought was. I saw this thing from free republic no joke then I realized I was in a history class not philosophy. I was like oh fuck I have a freeper for a teacher, so I realized my error then went next door. Not only is my teacher a nice and funny guy, I am positive he is a dem, and he has all these old magazine covers and campaign posters, I saw DK's. :) sorry just had to say that. The class seems nice too. We started immidentialy on philosophical subjects. I argued for the point that the poor and uneducated should be able vote which according to my teacher was what Jefferson thought and he played devil's advocate as Hamilton. Also this security guy came in to check on something and he made a great case on Mother Teresa and what she did was better than what say Bill Gates does.

3. So the security guy participated in your philosophy class?
LOL. I can just picture it. "Then the janitor walked in and gave a scathing condemnation of absolute relativism. Later, in the cafeteria, the lunch lady argued with me about Kirkegaard."

6. That's a good point
Reminds us that selfishness beats altruism all the time which makes you wonder how altruism still manages to exist at all.

7. That's great
You know it's hard enough for the people in the class to contribute their thoughts without others judging them, but for the security guy to give his opinion in a class he's not in, that's great. Very true statement also. BTW I totally respect anyone that gives to help others less fortunate like Bill and Mother Teresa, but you can see the difference ... Mother Teresa got others around her to help others in person and comfort them, money isn't the same as listening and comforting someone that just goes a little deeper.

Going off the subject:

This reminds me of a story...a man had a beautiful house, wife, children in great health, but was so upset and complained all the time he wanted more money to buy even a bigger house because that would make his family so happy, if only he had a bigger house and better car. My question to those who want so much more that think that's what will make them happier, when you were a kid did it make you happier when your dad bought a new car or when you think back and remember those Sunday afternoons and vacations that your parents spent with you? And if you are a parent, was it really that A on the report card that made you soooo happy or was it when your kid really accomplished something in art, athletics, or did something creative that really made you smile and made you appreciate life just a little more? Not everyone even has a freakn car, wife or healthy children and we want and want even more. Going back to Mother Teresa, I think she was a much happier person than Bill, because she appreciated the simplier things of life which money can't buy.

5. When I was in high school...
the last 2 years we had police officers in the halls during the school day (long story).

I always was a little leery until I started noticing that one always hung out around the door to the band hall during the hour I was in Jazz Band. He was a huge jazz fan and eventually we convinced him it was ok to come on in and sit down and listen if he wanted. Turned out he wa a really nice guy who knew all about the music.

You never know what's lurking under the exterior with people.
