My co-worker is going through Burning Man withdrawals
A co-worker and friend is back from Burning Man for his first day of work, and boy is he down. This isn't the first time I've seen this from people, since several folks from work go every year. That must be one hell of an experience, eh?

1. That's a common reaction I keep hearing.
I have yet to go. :(

2. So, fire a few rounds through his cubicle
Set his desk on fire, then ran naked past the flames. He'll feel much better, and thank you profusely. I'm almost sure of it.

6. I have never understood the
Burning Man thingy myself.

All those high tech people out there doing something so primitive they might as well have a cave nearby.

The trailers must be substitutes.

Weird.

10. Very true. Folk festivals also.
You're in an alternate universe for a while. People friendly. Most sharing many of your attitudes and/or political views. Shared hardships.
Cell phones have diminished this somewhat, but not much.
Tolerance for difference.

Drugs not really required to have this feeling, although there's a little of that (pot).

By the way, anyone else out there go to Falcon Ridge Festival in New York?

12. My friend Sparky set up a 100 amp, 60 KVA generator
Big sucker. His group bought it, and Sparky spent his first day and a half getting it running. Once he did, his whole area had abundant power. They had an ice truck producing ice constantly, and a pallet load of beef in a large freezer.

Primitive indeed.

15. Cave men
could have both a pallet of mammoth and ice nearby.

Wouldn't take a day and a half to set it up either.

7. Hardly surprising
Spend a week running about in the desert with the clear conviction that you're and extraordinary and phenomenally beautiful free spirit--then crash back down with the news that... well... you're actually something of a cube rat, really, and you work in a concrete building with an artificial environment.

That'd bum you out pretty thoroughly...

8. So you
revert to the cave??

How about using the trained brain to leave the cube behind?

11. True Burners can be insufferable for two weeks or more
They had such a wonderful time on their VACATION while you were working, and they're eager to share the experience with you!

14. Update
Poor bastard just went to shake up his frapaccino and, forgetting he had popped the top a few minutes before, proceeded to coat his entire office, including himself, his keyboard, etc. with Starbucks finest.
