Favorite Pink Floyd album?
Mine would have to be Piper at the Gates of Dawn. Love the Syd Barrett Floyd.

44. Typo ?
I think you meant "Wish You Were Her", their concept album about a plain girlfriend and old Marilyn Monroe movies ;)

that album, to me, is like "stairway to heaven" or "freebird". (((((enough already)))))

I like "wish you were here".

When I'm feeling depressed, one listen to "The Final Cut" convinces me I have yet to plumb those depths.

8. I'll be the contrarian: Final Cut
Not particularly good music to get stoned by, but it gives a coherent voice at last to what Roger Waters was trying to say in Animals and The Wall. If you don't mind Pink Floyd in their quietest moments, it holds its own against the other albums.

11. Since My Floyd-Mania Days are well behind me
I only listen to them on occasion.

Therefore, I have to say in terms of overall composition, stature, and just genuine all-time classic-ness, it's gotta go to DSOTM.

However, I was certainly burned out on it for many, many years.

Other contenders, for sure:

Meddle
Animals
WYWH

the old Syd Barrett stuff is cool, too.

20. I need to buy it on CD, but...
Wish You Were Here.

I was in the record store this weekend and listened to it a bit and I realized what a jones I have for that. But not at $18.99 for a disk that old.

Would it be rude to ask a parallel question? Favorite album by The Who?

My choice is Quadrophenia. I just bought the disk of that, and I had forgotten about how fantastic Keith Moon's drumming is........

32. Absolutely.
It is still my favourite Floyd album.

Dark Side is good but overrated IMO.
Wish You Were Here is better, but you have to be in the mood.

I am ALWAYS in the mood for DOGS.

Dang it, I want to go to bed, now I'm going to have to listen to it before sleepy-time...

22. If you really want to get Wish You Were Here,

listen to Piper at the Gates of Dawn. It's all Syd, and it's fantastic. It drives home the point Waters was making in WYWH,

Remember when you were young,
You shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there's a look in your eyes,
Like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
You were caught on the crossfire
Of childhood and stardom,
Blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter,
Come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!

You reached for the secret too soon,
You cried for the moon.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Threatened by shadows at night,
And exposed in the light.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Well you wore out your welcome
With random precision,
Rode on the steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions,
Come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!

Wish you were here, shine on your crazy diamond, Brain damage, etc.

35. Haven't we all?
There is some excellent stuff on there no doubt, but it wanders a little too much for me...besides by the time you get to the fourth side I've just about had enough of Roger Waters angst...

30. symphonic Pink Floyd and Orchestral Maneuvers
Both of them. Okay, I am probably a heretic, but Mr. Pcat is a big fan and I've only had about 4 years of exposure... and I'm a classical baby.

Besides, I adore When the Tigers Broke Free. It sparked a concept for me that I've never heard anywhere else and am working on a historical paper thanks to.
