Amazing Race watchers - Last night's episode re: Colin during early parts
What ultimately happens to Colin between now and the end of the show?

A) His head literally explodes on camera the next time something bad happens.

B) He spontaneously combusts on camera after they finish out of the running in an upcoming episode

C) The whipping post named Christie finally snaps and slaps or otherwise physically assaults him after he accuses her of further imcompetence and/or failure to support him in his increasingly jackassish behavior.

1. Love Amazing Race
Anyone who has travelled on their own itinerary can enjoy it. Only "reality show" I can stomach. Colin was flirting with disaster. Will the odds catch up to him?

2. Agreed. The only one worth watching.
The premise is just so much better than all the others. For one thing, the scenery changes! Who wants to watch a bunch of people in the same house or island for 3 months? Also, it's totally about thinking fast on your feet.

I hope the Christian Models lose. I can't stand them! Couple of hypocrites! Oh, we're big time Christians, but we'll do anything to win. The girl actually said something like that way back in the beginning. Yup, we'll lie, cheat, whatever. So typical. I'm not rooting for anyone, so much as rooting against the "Christian when it's convenient" couple. Actually I hope the black couple or the bowling moms win. They are the nicest of the bunch. They've managed to be nice and still prevail. It proves you don't have to be a jerk to win.

3. I'd like Kim/Chip or the bowling moms to win as well.
I rarely get invested that much in the contestants but I was really worried when it looked that one of those two groups may have been the last one's to report in last night.

It'd be nice to see a nice team win but it always seems to be one of the jerks who wins these reality show competitions.

I don't mind the Christian model couple. Let's face it, you're there to win and despite what Nikki said at the beginning, I haven't seen them do anything specifically that would go against any real moral code. They've played pretty fair and are definitely more appealing than the twins or Colin/Christie.

4. Agree on some
i agree that the constant changes of scene keep it fresh and fun--it is like a travelogue in that way. But I can't agree about the christian guy, who refused to do the alcohol shot which was the easy way out. I don't think that its hypocritical to do what is within the rules of the game--that's what a game is.

And I ain't so sure about Chip's willingness to do what it takes, either. But he is better to the people who help him than some--and like all travelers, he is dependent on the kindness of strangers!

12. I think the alcohol thing was done for dramatic effect
one of the things I think the producers set up. They just don't seem real sincere about their moral code to me. I think the little person and her partner seemed more genuine in their Christian beliefs as do the black couple. It's just how it comes across to me personally. And btw, I'm an agnostic, so it's very interesting to me to watch this new angle they've added for this race. One of my biggest turn offs is people who wear their religion on their sleeve and then don't practice what they preach so it's sort of interesting to see the ones who don't talk about it all the time, actually practicing it more so than the ones who go on and on about it.

5. And I did want the team with the dwarf to win, simply
because she really did the job and was saddled with a fairly worthless and whiney partner (only aid was speaking Arabic at end)

6. The only primetime show I watch
Last night's ep was a perfect example of why I love this show --
great locales, interesting challenges, suspense, and contestants who represent a range of perspectives and mindsets. The ultimate Ugly American (Colin) contrasted with a genuinely compassionate nice guy (Chip) while the others look on in amazement.

7. Charla wasn't all that admirable
For someone who kept saying that she wanted to prove that she could do anything other people could she sure played the sympathy card with her height a lot in order to get people to help her out on tasks that other teams did without aid from outsiders.

Lying about being sick and needing a doctor in order to try get bumped up higher on a stand by flight doesn't win many integrity/honesty points either.

Admittedly, you do what you can to win and Charla did seem to do most if not all of the road block challenges while Mirna wimped out on everything. However, in retrospect (with the aid of recaps on Television without Pity) the hypocrisy of the two did become a little more apparent.

9. Mirna was on my last damned nerve.
It wasn't until they were eliminated that I realized I didn't dislike them as a team, it was just that my dislike for Mirna rubbed off on Charla. Charla did play the sympathy card a few times but it kinda balanced out in my mind when she took on the Road Block challenges that the annoying Mirna couldn't handle.

13. Oh man, she was a trip huh?
the way she would throw herself at the poor host at the finish line every time. You could see it in his eyes - oh no! Here she comes again. He was nice about it but you could tell it was starting to wear on him.

15. Now that I think about it...
Edited on Wed Aug-25-04 12:30 PM by skypilot
...maybe the reason he was all choked up the day they got eliminated wasn't because he felt bad for and proud of Charla but because he was overjoyed at the thought of not having to hug Mirna anymore.

"Yaaayyy!! It's the last time I have to hug this twit!"

dislikable from their on.

18. I think that's part of the game, thought
and she was tough. Mostly, I felt sorry for having to deal with her cousin's voice and whining and sheer lack of help.

8. Colin: The Ultimate Ugly American.
Sure, they edit this show for the most dramatic appeal, but there's no way that they could have edited the miserable showing that Colin put on while trying to both Ñ avoid jail and Ñ cheat the taxi driver out of his fare.

10. That relationship is doomed.
It was so sad the way Christie ultimately ended up apologizing to Colin for her behavior. That is an abusive relationship in the making. It reminded me so much of when a battered woman says that the abuse she suffered at the hands of her batterer was her own fault because she provoked him.

11. Colin's taxi fare ultimatum
I thought it absolutely amazingly arrogant for this jerk to dictate the terms of payment to the driver when everyone was charging the same $100 rate up front before anyone even got in a car. Hell, the mom's broke down as well and they didn't seem to have an issue with honoring the payment.

Hate to say it but I really wish the guy had gone just far enough for the police to have been able to justify holding him for whatever reason just long enough to have him miss all the planes leaving during the three announced times.

14. Doesn't he remind you of one of those silver-spoon frat boys?
Arrogant and mean. Even so, he still doesn't bug me as much at that blonde "model." There's just something about him, I can't put my finger on it.

16. He's kind of a wuss.
Remember how he wouldn't do or say a single thing when his girlfriend was being hassled by that bus driver? The guy was all in her face and hitting her--lightly albeit--with the paper in his hand. He was clearly out of line and Brandon stood there pretending to read a map or something.

17. Yes, he's very self-absorbed
I knew tons of guys like him in college. Luckily I don't run into that type much anymore.
