Got a friend who is in the meat industry. He said bacon took a 'big hit' today. He quoted a price for Oscar Meyer center cut 12 oz going for $6. He said it could go up to $9. a pound.

The reason bacon gets so popular when times are hard is because it's a cheap "meat" that can keep you alive, if not in great health.
$9 a pound is NOT cheap. What are they poor folks gonna eat? Back in the days of King Ronaldus the First, if we couldn't get bacon we didn't have any animal protein.
One of 2 things are gonna happen. Either people are gonna buck-up and pay this extortion, and let other things slide (like the rent), or they're gonna give up the bacon, and I don't know what they'll replace it with.
And who will ultimately take it in the nuts? The small family hog producer, that's who. the little guy again. Only this time, it might be a guy who's had to upgrade his hobby farm because his "day job" went to India. He won't see much of that $9 a pound. Oscar Meyer IX or whoever runs that place will get it all.

... and eat probably too much of it, though for my advanced years I'm remaining pretty lean :)
I don't know if I'd pay $9 a pound, but I might. But either way, that price will be temporary. Cause more farmers will raise pigs when they can get that price, and the price will go down :)
