2 Men Dig Tunnel To Steal $1.5 Million Worth Of Beer
<snip>

SEOUL (Reuters) - Two South Koreans have been detained on suspicion of digging a tunnel to smuggle more than $1.5 million worth of beer and wine out of a U.S. military base in central Seoul, customs officials said on Thursday.

They said the two men opened a cafe -- called the "U-Turn Espresso Coffee Shop" -- as a front. A tunnel led from there to a cargo container inside the base 20 yards away.

"An anonymous caller notified police of the smuggling ring operations two months ago, and the two leaders were detained on Monday," customs spokesman Cho Min-ho told Reuters.

He said the suspects removed 58,000 boxes of beer and 4,000 cases of wine worth about $1.7 million. The alcohol was sold on the black market.

1. And not one GI noticed the hole or the missing beer
Uh-Huh.

The movie "Buffalo Soldier" comes to mind. Selling drugs and Mop 'n' Glo on the German black market. I wasn't into anything like that but Matt it is set in the late 80's/early 90's about the time both of us were over there. Damned ration cards.

3. Our mortars had an E-7 who used his up in like 3 months
the liquor part. He got the 17 & 18 year olds in his mortar section to buy him liquor (vodka) with their cards.

I never understood the Southern Comfort and Candian Mist (I think it was) not being rationed.

1.parts/gas

that's 7 things.

On edit- duct tape is "100 mile per hour" tape, at least it was in my unit.

The story went (ready for this?) that a 2 1/2 ton truck (a "deuce and a half") started rolling down hill and it reached a speed of 100 MPH. Some "100 MPH tape" had been strung across some poles in the field the truck was rolling in and it stopped the truck. That was the story that was told to me.

Either that or it means you are trying to be "high speed".

OD paint- it does NOT stand for Olive Drab but Over Dirt, to hell with cleaning it just paint it.

8. oh and they spend way more than that trying to fight
the rampant alcoholism in the military...
A friend of mine is a nurse who specializes in rehab for the Navy...very big problem...yet the military offers booze at reduced rates to its soldiers...
