Protester Attacks Marathon Leader - leader loses rhythm and finishes third
Edited on Sun Aug-29-04 01:41 PM by ps1074
Holy shit. What a strange way for Olympics to end.

An athlete was attacked by a spectator tonight as he was heading for gold in the Olympic men’s marathon in Athens.

Brazilian Vanderlei de Lima had a 40 second lead in the latter stages of the 26 mile race when the bizarrely-dressed man struck.

The protester ran across the road and manhandled the athlete into the crowd. The protester was then attacked himself by other spectators.

4. An Irish fundie
Police identified him as Cornelius Horan, an Irish citizen. In July 2003, Horan, in a costume similar to Sunday's, ran onto the track at the British Grand Prix in the middle of the race and stayed there for more than 20 seconds, forcing racers to swerve around him. He was carrying a sign that said, "read the Bible — the Bible is always right."

6. OMG is it really the same guy?
I watched this race. The guy was absolutely insane. Cars were running at more than 220 miles per hour and he was standing in the middle of the track with some home made sign.

It was so scary that I had to flip channels every time a car was passing him. I was affraid someone won't see him and hit the poor bastard.

World is full of stupid fucks.

7. The IOC is giving him its highest honor
Can't recall the name, but it's a special medal - he'll get it tonight.
