Computer security products you have |
|
I'm one of those people who can never have enough security. I have:
Norton AntiVirus/Systemworks 2003 Zone Alarm Pro 4.0 BlackICE PC Protection to go with ZA Tauscan trojan prevention (changing to TDS-3 when I can) Free Bit Defender scanner (non-real time scanner to back up my main AV) Abtrusion Protector (I don't think you'd need this one - it prevents too many downloads.) RegProtect Spybot S&D Script Sentry Adaware IE-spyads SpywareGuard (real-time spyware engine - and free) SpywareBlaster

4. Some people say they survive by shutting down services.. |

when they don't need them. It's possible, but the liklihood of error is high.

5. What about DriveCrypt? |
|
This program provides a logic drive that you can access like a normal drive. Physically it is a strongly encrypted file that can be read only when you entered your passwords resp. passphrases. So should you lose your notebook or should a hacker be able to read your hard drive, the data contained in that file would be safe. The data is encrypted and decrypted in realtime, so the data is never stored on your hard drive in an unencrypted form.

11. Well, you don't have outbound protection |
|
Meaning that a trojan or application could communicate with another computer. And anti-virus products sometimes aren't great at finding trojans.

10. Watchout for ZoneAlarm |
|
If anyone is using the free version of zone alarm, and it is an older one.....don't try to upgrade. A nasty bug has been attached to it that won't let you uninstall or upgrade. I had to spend four hours getting rid of all the leftover mess it made. If you don't clean it up, you can't connect to the internet except for about five or ten minutes.

I have good locks on my doors and I don't use any of Microsoft's mail clients.
What more could a person need?

14. the virex that came with my .Mac account. |

I avoid Internet Explorer and Outlook, so that automatically makes my computer much more secure. I only run OSX and Linux, so security is already pretty good. Both have much better built in firewalls, as opposed to the weak one on Windows.
