No, not exactly. There are hundreds of really amazingly cool people on this site.

Unfortunately, there are two groups who may give you trouble.

1. SOME people on this site automatically suspect any newbie of being a troll, a freeper, or a disruptor. Any enlightened person on this site knows that is complete bullshit, and that we were all new once, and that as long as the new person isn't saying "I heart Bush!", we should give him/her the benefit of the doubt.

2. There are also, as on any site, assholes who are just assholes for the sake of being assholes. They'll attack anyone for any reason if they're having a pissy day.

All that said, most people will be wonderfully welcoming and kind. The Lounge is a good place to get your feet wet and to come if you have questions about how things work around here. GD can get a bit hairy (understatement), the Israel/Palestine forum (called "Foreign Affairs") is downright nasty, and the Gun Dungeon ("Justice/Public Safety") is like the Twilight Zone.

The poster above who mentioned the "alert" button is actually telling you about one of the best things I've ever found on the web.

The moderators don't want members to fight or use personal attacks, so rather than getting dragged down to that level, you simply push alert and they handle it in a discreet way. For example, you are never 'outed' and you also are never told the result (which sometimes is obvious and sometimes not). It's downright civilized!

Anyway, glad you're here.
