Poll question: BOW TIES? a poll
Do you (would you) wear a bow tie?
Why?
What kind of message do you think that's sending?

A good friend's wedding (Happy Anniversary John and Nannette!) in Napa.

For the ceremony we wore tuxes with ties, of course. But at the reception, I had changed to tux, tennis shoes and I had ditched the tie.

Didn't know about the fad, but that tux was a damn sight more comfy without the tie.

10. on formal wear:
I remember when the choices for tie and cummerbund were black and black.
Then (WOW!) maroon came into fashion.
Then plaids, paisleys, and geometric prints.

I wore a clip-on tie to my first formal dances. Then my beau brummel uncle taught me how to tie a bow-tie, something he said every gentleman should know.
I gotta say, it does give you a certain Sinatra-like panache to untie it and let it dangle at evening's end. Something you just don't get with a clip-on attached to one side of your unbuttoned collar.
Is that snobbery, or what?
;-)

14. bow ties rule
I've worn bow ties for the past 20 or so years. unlike neckties one rarely spills soup on them. they don't tend to get caught in machines. and they're hard to grab in a fight. surprisingly enough there are a fair amount of women who dig them.

I started wearing them when I was in an industrial/avante garde band and all the other members wore black. I wore suits and bow ties to add a little color.

not all men can or should wear a bow tie. I've been told I can pull it off because I sort orlook like an elegant cop or an ex heavy weight boxer who didn't throw to many fights.

I understand there is an excressence on cnn who sports them these days. from what I've seen of him he is a bozo and brings shame on bow tie wearers through out the world.
