As of 4:30 pm today, I will no longer have a job.
I've known about this for a while; my job is grant-funded, and the grant didn't get renewed. I work at a large hospital, and I've had a couple of pretty good interviews here but I haven't heard anything from them yet.

Last week, I turned down a temp pt job at the hospital because I'm hoping for one of the full-time jobs. And believe me, it was tough to turn down any job because it's pretty rare that I get offered one. (For some reason, I'm just not good at getting jobs.)

If my phone machine isn't blinking with a good message when I get home today, I'll call about the FT jobs tomorrow. I'm trying to be hopeful, because if I don't get one I'll probably have to temp, which sucks. I've been only working part-time as it is, and I'd really like to find a full-time gig so I can pay all my bills and have a fixed schedule so I can schedule things I want to do around it. But I do have a few weeks worth of vacation days left, so I can technically take my vacation in the next couple of weeks to stay on the payroll a bit longer.

4. I was laid off last Friday
Yeah, it sucks.

But I'm trying to make the most of it while preparing to move cross-country.

Before long, Nimrod* will have us all asking, "Brother, can you spare a dime?".

Good luck to you.

5. Break a leg!
I'm pulling HARD for you--to stay where you are--which is obviously what you want to do--and who can blame you for that? You're one more victim of the Dub economy--no jobs, no money; no truth!

I'm really sorry about this; my job is also grant-funded and we're looking hard for renewal or replacement funding at the end of next FY; my boss badly wants to keep me on. Here's hoping BOTH of our bosses are successful in that! :D

B-)

7. hey
you say "for some reason" you're not good at getting jobs. Take some time and do some thorough research on the internet about tips for job interviewing. It could be something that is easily fixed. But, don't browbeat yourself about it in THIS economy. Getting the job you want is tough right now. Hang in there.

9. Sounds like you have a good attitude
That should help keep you going until you find something else, and you will (fingers crossed for you here!).

The Bush administration is trying to out-source my federal job. I figure I've got about a year left unless we are successful in handing those jerks THEIR pink slips in 2004.

We mustn't get discouraged!

Keep us posted on your progress--

As pain-in-the-ass as my job can be, at least it's recession-proof. I suppose that's something to be glad about!

13. Good luck at finding a job
I'm not that good at getting jobs either (at least ones that I want). When I got my job that I have now, though, I had about four differnt jobs to choose from because I was interviewing for multiple jobs at the same time. It sounds like you have a good start with your job search. You might want to ask the temp agency how they feel about people changing jobs within the agency. Some agencies will continue to look for you if you accept a job that is less than you are hoping for.
