Someone come over here and make me something to eat! |
|
My husband is at work. I'm so hungry. But it's so hard to make anything in my kitchen with the crutches. I have to pull a stool up to the fridge, take out what I want and put it on the seat, then push it across the kitchen with my foot while I crutch across to the counter area. It takes forever. I know I told everyone I was ready to come home and that I'd be okay alone in the apartment, and I'm so glad I am home, but...but...but...
THIS SUCKS!! WAH!!
</rant>
Thanks. I'm gonna get up soon, I swear.

It's good for me to do stuff on my own. And it's good for me to do stuff that takes a long time. I just had to bitch a little.

5. Tell the kitties to whip you up something |
|
A little mouse mousse perhaps?
You need a stash to keep in a comfy zone. What kind of non perishable easy stuff do you like? Peanut butter & Jelly? Popcorn? Poptarts? Nuts! Dried Fruit? Graham crackers? Trying to think of not entirely unhealthy things.

9. I keep asking the cats do do stuff... |
|
...and they just look at me! Argh!
We went shopping yesterday and got PB&J, lunch meats, cheeses, breads, granolla bars, yogurt, popcorn...things that are quick and don't take a lot of preparation. It's just hard to move anything around.
I ended up making a roast beef and swiss cheese sandwich on rye, and a salad.

6. Here's a one pan meal my mother used to make 2x's a month |
|
Hamburger (as much as you like-1/2 - 1 lb) a can of tomato soup (regular size-not the family size) cheese (my mom used velveeta - which is the only cheese I would suggest=I use 1/2- 3/4 of a small block) and a touch of worchestershire sauce. Toast or Toasted Hamburger buns
Brown the hamburger (drain the grease) stir in an undiluted can of tomato soup. cut up the velveeta cheese into 1/2" x 1/2" cubes and stir till melted shake in the worchestershire sauce to taste.
Spread this over the toast or toasted buns
This is VERY fattening...and if you are prone to heartburn..take a pepcid or two BEFORE you eat!

and the half gallon of your favorite carton of ice cream you bought. Skip dinner. Go straight to dessert. I mean, it's not like you get to do that very often, is it?

8. I know what this is like. I have been on crutches, as you know. |
|
That was when I was at boarding school, so they fed me, but I also had three surgeries, over the past few years, so know what you're going through. My mother had said that she would help me out after the first, and worst one, but rarely followed through. I could barely stand, after that one.:-(
After my last surgery, my friend, who knew what I had gone through, just took over. He made or brought me dinner every night, organized my meds and fed my animals. It was a Godsend.:-)
My suggestion is to ask your husband to get something together for you ahead of time. He could leave a sandwich, already made, in the fridge, or make something and leave it in a dish that you could just heat up in the microwave. Even a frozen dinner or canned soup is better than not eating at all. Some of the soups are not bad.
I know what you're going through and understand. It is extremely important for you to eat well now, while your body is healing. I often wonder if it took me so long to get well because I did not, that first time. I wish that you lived next door so I could bring you homemade soup or a casserole that you or your husband could just heat up.:-)
I know that it sucks, but it won't last forever.:-)

13. Good idea, and thanks so much. |
|
Cliff had mentioned that it might be a good idea for him to prepare some stuff that I could just nuke. I think I'll ask him to go ahead and do it. I haven't wanted to be too much trouble, but seriously...you understand.
I just never realized before how important it is to have your hands free when you're walking, and how much stuff you can't do if you need your hands to walk. I never thought about it before.
Can't wait til it's over!

16. Yes, I understand, and it won't be forever |

You can return the favor when you are well. He cares for you, so it will probably please him to look after you.:-)
I really do know what it's like. I still head for the handicapped stall when I use a ladies' room! I also broke my arm, years ago, and needed the additional room! LOL!:D
Just a suggestion, since you don't have your hands free when you're walking. My housemother gave me a bag to carry my things, when I was on crutches, which was a very poor idea, because it swung back and forth and got me off-balance. My grandmother needed to use a walker so I got her a fannypack! I read that a lot of older people were using these and it is just great! I wish that they had them when I was on crutches! Just a suggestion...:-)
It will be over before you know it...:hi:

17. I hope things get better for you soon |

I keep you in my prayers and have you on the prayer list of a couple of the meeting I go to. I don't know exactly what you are going through with the crutches but I remember being super sick in MS for 6 days. Nothing delivered down there. It was so hard to either drive for soup or something to eat or to make something at home. I literaly offered a local pizza place $20 bucks to deliver just one pizza to me AND THEY WOULDN'T DELIVER EVEN THEN. I can't imagine weeks on end having that much difficulty doing simple things.

18. Wish I could come up and cook for you |
|
We'd both gain a billion pounds!
Want Mexican, Cajun? I'd even try Italian just for you. (My lasagna wasn't too bad.)
Oh, how I wish we were closer! I'd come cook for you in a heatbeat. I'd even clean the litterbox.
Remind me not to argue the next time Furry Murray talks about moving to New Jersey. ;-)

Thanks for the reminder!:-)
I hope that you are eating well enough by now, without having to resort to the expense and dubious nutrition of take-out, though Chinese food might not be too bad in both respects. I would suggest stocking up on soups and deli products and heating up soup and a sandwich for lunch as long as you're disabled. It is extremely important that you get the proper nutrition so that you heal properly and can get back to normal ASAP. Take all the time you need, but make sure to eat! I would also ask your doctor for advice. He/She might also suggest a vitamin supplement that would benefit you. For example, I was put on an iron supplement because I was seriously anemic. It would not hurt to ask and might benefit you enormously!:-)
