Need help urgently with charity info RE: Mexico |
|
I have a client in my office. His son is in Michoacan in a hospital. He fell off a two story roof and his tib/fib and landed in a sewage ditch. He is 22 years old and has no money. THe father is in my office and is telling me that the introvenous anti-biotics they are treating him with cost $200 a day and if they don't have means to pay, he can't get the treatment. He showed me the label of the anti-biotic. The problem is if they don't treat the infection (for which I am assuming they are using a broad spectrum IV anti-biotic, they may have to amputate his leg)
I have NO idea as to what charities may be able to intervene and help, and I would like to help this gentleman.
If anyone knows, can you please post to this thread?
BTW, I have already called the Red Cross here in SD..they don't do anything in Mexico and the consulate is closed for the day.

1. Did you try Catholic Social Services? |
|
I am not sure if they can help, but they might know who can.

3. Is the son a US citizen? |

If so I would contact the US embassy near where he is and see which US charities are working in the region. Actually, it probably doesn't really matter if he is a US citizen.

So far no luck..but all of them say to call and make a big fuss at the Mexican Consulate..this gentleman is quite meek and I doubt he would do that (he's really a sweet guy..this isn't even anything to do with my business I just want to help him..if I had the cash on hand, I'd pay for it myself)
I haven't heard back from Catholic charities yet (the guy sent me to their emergency services line and I left a message..but thanks!)
Calling the "hispanic" chamber of commerce now.

8. Looks like we're making some progress with the business |
|
community and the problem now is a bit easier since I got an interpreter here..it seems all we need to do is find the antibiotic ($100 bucks a shot) which the hospital in Michoacan doesn't stock..pay for it and get it to the hospital
Thanks all for you help...and it started with the call to Catholic charities which led me to the other orgs...THANKS!! Ches! I knew DU could help!
