I haven't had a sloppy joe in years!
What time should I be there? I'll bring my own spoon.

How 'bout a drop or two of BBQ sauce in the filling, and toast the buns with a bit of garlic butter for character.

is a lovely idea! And may help keep them from getting soggy too fast.
However, I would rather see him use liquid smoke and a tsp or less of honey.
P.S. have you considered 8-10 fennel seeds, crushed; or a pinch of cumin? (gives it that 'chili' taste without being quite as hot as the chili powder)

Sometimes I'll add it to "Manwich" mix for a "Taco-Bell" kind of taste.
I know, I know... Manwich... don't even bother to flame me. I know, already.

5. Ah! The greatest sandwich ever! |

You appear to be using the standard recipe out of any cookbook(the worcestershire sauce being the give away).
Here's my (mom's) recipe
1 lb hamburger leanness immaterial brown hamburger, crumble into pieces while browning
drain grease
couple shakes LAWREY'S seasoning
stir til uniform coating of seasoning
HEINZ 57 ketchup - squirt until mixture is red but NOT enough to make it runny
stir
FRENCH'S mustard - squirt enough in to make mixture orange
stir
scoop mixture to a ring leaving an empty spot in center, add OPEN PIT BBQ sauce to center, stir, add brown sugar to center BBQ sauce, stir this until it turns dark brown
stir hamburger and BBQ/brown sugar mix thoroughly
let simmer for the time it takes to put ingredients away
serve hot with chips for picking up what WILL fall out!
Enjoy!

Don't use the prepackaged sloppy joe seasoning, use the one for chili

but I'll try yours. I also might add cole slaw, melteld cheddar cheese, those onion things in a can, and maybe mustard. It sure is good when you're in a rush. I prefer ground sirloin or chuck, that lowfat meat sticks to the pan and it's tasteless. Thanks.

I lied about the meat. As grandma always said, "fat's where the flavor is"....
And: Lawry's rules.

...Because I know every DUer was sitting around, wondering "how did Robb's Sloppy Joes turn out?!?" :eyes:
Anyhoo. Lawry's instead of salt. Skipped the vinegar in favor of a little white wine. Skipped the sugar. Added a dash of cayenne. Left out the celery in favor of celery seeds (quickly toasted beforehand). Organic green peppers from the last farmer's market of the season, cooked for a few minutes in the meat fat with the onions, then drained (a little). Full 14.5 oz can of tomato sauce, and everything else, and simmered forever.
Wound up melting a bit of butter in a pan, dropping in some minced garlic (minced with a knife, try to never use the squeezy thing), and toasting the buns in the pan.
Absolutely the best ever. The shiraz wasn't bad either, although it was a departure from our "only drink French wine" grass-roots action. :)
