Is it me, or is the NFL in cahoots with the Republicans and Neo-Cons???
Edited on Thu Sep-04-03 10:01 PM by northwest
I decided not to watch the opening for tonight's game, because I heard about all the politicised shit that would be going on. But I heard about it, and did not like it one bit. That's why I didn't want to tune in too early. For example, they show KKKoors commercials like twice on every commercial break. I really think there's some damn partisan politicising going on here with the NFL.

Here's another good example: Take the fact that when FOX broadcasts their NFL games, and does a promo for Bill O'Lielly's show, and one of the announcers proceeds to lick O'Lielly's ass, talking about how "fair and balanced" he is, and how he's the "answer for the liberal media", and all that bullshit. And the fact that football is my all-time favorite sport, it REALLY pisses me off. I just want to watch some fucking football for three hours. I don't want jingoistic, nationalistic, neo-con shit being thrown in my face at the beginning. I used to not have to mute the TV right before kickoff, now I HAVE to.

Oh great. Here's another KKKoors commercial with Kid Rock going on right now.:puke:

On edit: Mods, this is probably a grey-area post between Lounge and GD characteristics, so you can decide wherever to put it if you want. I decided to post it here, because I hang out here the most.:-)

Look at where unilateralism has gotten us, Positron. A bodybag a day, and thousands of injured GIs.

Jingoism is ugly, inclusive. Patriotism is beautiful and inclusive.

isn't much when you compare it to Normandy in which a thousand were killed in the first 20 minutes. You can't have a war where people don't get killed. The streets of any major city are more dangerous for it's citizens than Iraq is for the soldiers. God bless America and God bless our troops!

My world isn't convoluted - it is complex and nuanced. There is no god or baby jesus watching out over us like Santa Claus. Better make sure you behave now, or you won't make the GOOD list!

Just for fun, why not count the venomous hateful words in your own post, then ask yourself which one of us your words are illuminating. Ah, but a man's words are windows into his soul.
So you want us out of America right now, do you? You would like to see a dictatorial cleric fill the void and return those 24 million to lives of terror and torture and no freedom? Not even the most devoted kool-aid drinkers wish for that, friend.
And by the way, you defame that angelic-voiced Joni by connecting her with your venom. Perhaps you need to go to bed then wake up to a Chelsea Morning.

60. And now...to shred this idiot to pieces
"We didn't PRE-EMPTIVELY WAGE WAR, and we didn't FABRICATE EVIDENCE for GOING TO WAR"
I guess those towers collapsing two years ago was a fabrication. Oh wait. I get it. 9-11 didn't count as a pre-emptive strike by the terrorists because it was OUR FAULT they attacked us.

"Saddam was a threat only to his own people"
Of course. Just ask the Kuwaitis. I really resent your calling Bill Clinton, Tom Daschele, and Madeline Albright liars, because what they said in 1998 about Iraq's WMD was exactly what was being said to today. I guess Saddam suddenly turned Boy Scout, didn't he? Hmmm.

"Did Vietnam not teach you anything"

Yes, it taught our leaders that we mustn't act like pussies when it comes to dealing with those who would destroy our way of life

"arrogance of that Irving Berlin piece of filth."

Yes. It is easy to see you are one patriotic individual. ROFL

You aren't too bright for a troll. One of the OLDEST SAWS of Republicans is that Democrats "hate wealth" and "hard-working rich people", etc. Boring!!! And total bullshit.

We just hate rich people who STEAL from those who have less through avarice and overconsumption. Not for being rich itself. We love rich people who do good in this world - not arrogant bloated selfish greedy assholes.

Republicans bring recession and joblessness with EVERY administration. Hoover through Chimpy, they destroy jobs and livleihoods. Possible exception: Eisenhower, but he was a closet semi-liberal. But the fucker gave us Nixon so I don't give him a pass.

75. If you look at my original post
I was adding to your post, mentioning other RWers on NFL shows. Let's take a look at my post, K?

"Also...let's not forget the Mondays night guy...Dennis Miller....and of course, Al Michaels, who is a huge conservative. As for what you call 'jingoistic' stuff, I'm all for it. God bless America."

Pretty innocent, isn't it? So instead of whining to me, clown, why don't you scold your fellow anti-American kool-aid drinking WHACKS?
These people started with the venom, and of course, when I am attacked, I ain't gonna take no shit. I guess I am a lot like America in that regard. God Bless America! Got it?

61. if your child was in that one a day catagory.....
i am sure you would put up a star in your window and go about your life as if nothing happened. your hive mentality and lack of anything other than rovian talking points are your undoing. you are here because you have yet to say something truely offensive...i am sure that will happen soon...usually does before a hundred posts....probably on a neo-con, southern far right babtist issue like that douche-bag hill they pit to death in florida. your posts remind me of the callers on c-span who call in on the democratic line and say"i'm a lifelong dem, but i had to vote for dubya...blah blah blah...."

oh yeah, and in keeping with the original tone of the thread....i will not be watching espn while limbag is employed there...fuck-em...and finally.....GOOOOOO TITANSSSSS!!!!!!!

4. This Portion of the War on Terr ® is Brought to You by Pepsi

You'll really be upset by the articles in the _Post_ about the Britney Spears-Pepsi War on Terr ® celebration.

In May, Tagliabue met at the Pentagon with Gen. Richard B. Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs, to pitch the plan for the kickoff event and salute to the troops, according to league and Pentagon officials.

Myers apparently liked what he heard. In keeping with its rules against commercial involvement, the Pentagon does not endorse the league or its sponsors, and it has no role in putting on the party, but the Pentagon did agree to fold the NFL kickoff bash into a new project called Operation Tribute to Freedom. That's a program "to demonstrate public appreciation for American men and women in uniform and reinforce the bond between the citizenry and the military," according to the program's Web site.

Several pages of that Pentagon site (http://www.ima.army.mil/events.asp) display the red-white-and-blue logo of the event: "NFL Kickoff Live. Washington D.C. Pepsi Vanilla."

Pepsi has long been aligned with the Republican Party. Recall the link between them and Nixon. Google for "kendall nixon pepsi".

Nixon behaved suspiciously in Dallas on 11/22/63. He denied being in Dallas when questioned by the FBI, but then changed the story to being that he was there for board meeting of Pepsico. There is no such meeting on record.

Also, Pepsico's advertising was handled by the same firm that worked to sell the Pentagon's "peace" campaign. Nixon and Pepsi president Kendall were longtime friends, and Nixon, according to the Justice Department, eliminated all red-tape so that Pepsico could open up in the Soviet Union. It was Kendall who formed the Save the Presidency Committee during Watergate. Cartha DeLoach, the FBI liaison between Hoover and LBJ later joined Pepsi-Cola.

Summer 1975, Washington DC
In committee hearings before the US Senate, the Central Intelligence Agency acknowledges receiving a budget of $11 million to destabilize the Allende government (which the CIA turns into $40 million by dealings on the Chilean black market). It is also revealed that in the fall of 1970, after consulting with President Nixon, Pepsi-Cola Board Chairman Donald Kendall had arranged a meeting between Agustín Edwards, owner of El Mercurio, Santiago's leading right-wing daily and top US officials. These officials included CIA Director Richard Helms, John Mitchell and Henry Kissinger. Later in the same day, these same American officials meet at the White House with the President; after the meeting Richard Helms quips to reporters, I have just been given the marshal's baton. The Senate committee says: All CIA officials stated that they interpreted President Nixon's September 15 instruction as a directive to promote a military coup in Chile ... Nixon tells Helms that to be successful, any effort to defeat Mr. Allende would have to be supported by the military factions in Chile. Henry Kissinger tells the 40 Committee, which oversees US intelligence operations, that a Marxist president in Chile would be incompatible with US security.

As a marketing tool, a four-day spectacle, including a concert paying tribute to the U.S. military, is probably good for professional football and the promoters of Pepsi. It certainly will be a nice celebration for the NFL's 2,000 VIP guests invited to the Thursday night concert. The Park Service has given the NFL permission to serve wine and Coors beer to its special Mall guests -- Coors being an event sponsor. Regular concertgoers will be screened and no alcohol will be allowed.

6. I love football too, and so am I.
I just want politics to stay the HELL away from the sport. I understand there are a lot of liberals and Democrats who watch and play football, but I will tell you from my personal experiences as a high school player and a college student assistant, that we're in the minority, trust me. Even so, that shouldn't be an excuse to wave around political and partisan riff-raff before the NFL kickoff.

12. Interesting
At my school I knew many football players. And there were more Democrats than I expected. But then again you're probably right--football is probably a conservative sport.

16. It's the culture that football entails, mostly.
It's more authoritarian and war-like. It can be interpreted as laborious, conformist work. I don't percieve football that way, however. I view it as a fun, entertaining, complex, intelligence-inhancing sport. I really think the general conservative football constituency gets the wrong interpretation of football.

7. Yep. Really, here's documentation.
Edited on Thu Sep-04-03 10:23 PM by Safi
Seriously, this is something I have observed in the past week.

1. NFL Network launches on November 4th 2004. Election day.

Here's the link and a lil' tidbit...

Shrub's re-selection/NFL Network Kickoff Date

It's official!
NFL Network, the first 24-hour, seven-day-a-week cable and satellite television network dedicated solely to the NFL, will launch at 8 p.m. ET on Election Day

2. Shrub and Tagliabue

The group spent 20 minutes in the Oval Office chatting about the upcoming season, the kickoff event in Washington D.C. that will take place on Sept. 4 and the Jets-Redskins matchup that will immediately follow the concert.

Before the meeting concluded, President Bush was joined by Vice President Dick Cheney, Secretary of State Powell, National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice and Chief of Staff Andy Card. The President thanked the Commissioner and owners for using the concert event on the Mall in Washington D.C. as an opportunity to salute the troops.

Ahem. I guess Shrub wants to identify with his 'so-called'-voter base.

but to the point of your thread, I think any sport where multimillionare players and multi-multimillionare owners meet is bound to get the attention of a pubbie or two.

85. Maybe because of the overwhellmingly male audience...
Although the population as a whole seems to be split about 50/50, a group of relatively young, majority male football fans would in my guess be 70% conservative and/or apathetic. Hence the Coors commercials urging them to get drunk, molest babes, crush nature, and celebrate ignorance.
BTW, I'm a liberal who happens to get giddy over footbal and (non-Coors) Beer!
