Balls,balls,balls....I lose my job next week.
OK, so it's not the end of the world 'cause I knew it would be temporary, but it's a huge pain in the arse.

I've had a great job and knew that that 3 months was the max that it would last (due to visa restrictions) but my employers had been trying to find ways for me to stay on. I just found out that I have to go, and it's very annoying. I only needed 2 more months and I'd have left anyway, now I have to try to find some way of earning money until mid-November.....very, very irritating.

The employment agencies here are total shit...they've found me 8 days work in 4 months. They advertise for experienced people to register with them, but when I ring up and say "Hang on, how come you're advertising when you can't find me ANY work at all?" and they just reply that actually there is no work around, they just want to get more people on their database....WHY? So you can fail to find them work too???

Of course this also means that I lose free internet access, so I won't be able to check in here more than twice a week...

:-(

Boo Boo Booooooo!

On the plus side, it's Friday evening already, and I'm going to crack open a few beers and drown my sorrows.

3. Office work, but mostly anything.......
My "training" (hahahha) is as a Business Systems Analyst, but over in Oz I've been doing casual office work....Oddly, for the last 3 months I've been developing training manuals for the goldmining industry, and I am currently writing Careers Guidance Counsellor training courses.

Looks like I may have found some more work, but it's 3 hours drive from my home, so I'll have to go and stay there during the week, which is a pain.

2. Hard luck mate
Always bad when you enjoy a job. I'll miss your daily posts, both you and Thankfully_in_britain always seem to get the UK press posts in so quick, and they are always intreasting.

Are you in OZ by any chance? Trying to work out the Friday Eve thing.

4. Thanks for the support....yes, I am in Oz right now.
Which is cool, 'cause it means I get to pick up the news during the US / UK night, and can post it before anyone else, hahaha.

:-)

I also get to see Top 10 Conservative Idiots the second it becomes available, and when most people are offline.

5. Update - looks like I have found another job......not all great though.
Within 30 minutes of declaring my unemployment, my current boss had emailed everyone he knows and told them I was available. He got one reply almost immediately, and it seems that I've been offered another job doing the same thing, on the same pay and with the added bonus that they will train me to drive dump-trucks, diggers and other equipment while I'm there. (My job involves writing training manuals for the Goldmining industry).

The problem?

It's 3 hours drive from where I live with my girlfriend........I'll have to stay there (sleeping in my camper van) during the week and drive back each weekend.

Still, it's only for 2 months, then we'll be heading off to explore the whole of Australia (in case you didn't know, I'm working as a temp to earn some cash during a "working holiday"). The whole of Australia being the same size as mainland USA........hmmmm.....daunting!

I'm hoping that someone will offer me a job nearer home, but I can't hang around waiting for one, spending money, when I could be earning some cash at the other job.....It's also REALLY annoying that the 5 employment agencies I've registered with haven't found me more than 5 days work between them in over 3 months.....DESPITE advertising for new recruits on the radio every day.

Still, I'm lucky to be getting work at all.

P.
