Anybody else getting pinged 1000s of times a day by Earthlink/Mindspring
subscribers, or am I just lucky? I'm assuming they're all pings, because that's the result I got the only time the Zone Alarm AlertAdviser worked; the rest just bring Error messages (implying that a lot of folks are submitting stuff and they're overloaded).

I'm on Earthlink, too. Sometimes, rarely, the alerts come from my own machine, but these aren't. They are all rated Medium, so I'm not overly concerned, just curious.

1. Don't Worry, It's Probably a 'Low Level' Threat That's 'Easy' To Remove
LOL!!!

:hi:

Is your IP address static, or dynamic?

Have you tested your port vulnerability here:https://grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 (go to bottom buttons, select 'Common Ports', run test)

Have you removed all spyware bots?

5. Dynamic, protected by Zone Alarm, and all of them caught by
AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy, respectively. Shields Up gave my Common Port security a perfect score. Yay for Zone Alarm.

As I said the first time, I have no security concern about the pings; just curious.

2. What the heck is a ping
I'm also an earthlink customer, and my Zone Alarm Alert Advisor tells me I'm getting hundreds of pings/day. I've gone to the free security sites and they all tell me my computer passes their tests with flying colors...very stealthy.

3. ICMP ping
Is a protocol to discover if an IP address if active.

What you're seeing is blaster virus fallout.

6. Thanks, but why just Earthlink, and why just in the last 24 hours?
Have they been specifically targeted, or particularly lax?
