1. Yeah, although I heard it at my Dean Meetup... |
|
...along with "Bring it on" and "Is our children learning?". But of course, we were making fun of Bush, so I don't think it counts.

This is what Todd Beamer said to his wife just before the passengers in the fourth hyjacked plane tried to take it over on 9-11. They were all killed when the plane crashed, but folks generally assume that they prevented the hyjackers from smashing into some government building in DC by doing so. So I wouldn't call it a right wing rallying cry-they were last courageous words of an American in a tight spot (and a lot more courageous than the Chimp saying'bring 'em on'). No wonder the freepers want to usurp it.

3. I remember hearing feint echoes of.... |
|
....General George Armstrong Custer shouting over and over again amidst the pounding of the hooves and the screeching whoops, "Let's Roll".

5. People were using that expression before 9/11 |
|
I have used it in the past but now feel uncomfortable doing so, as though it's somehow disrespectful. Go figure.

"roll" being slang as it is for "leaving to go somewhere" (or something), "let's roll" is not an uncommon thing to hear.
Let's look at a sample conversation:
Friend A: "Hey, we should go see (insert movie)." Friends B and C: "Yeah, sure," etc. Friend A: "Cool, let's roll."
I think that phrase is only a right-wing rallying cry if it's a right-winger saying it to other right-wingers, implying that we should be invading heathen countries left and right.
