Anyone in Seattle want a FREE Ikea Computer Desk? Great Condition!!!
Hey!

This is the computer desk we're trying to give away (you wouldn't think it'd be that hard to get rid of).

We recently upgraded to a larger computer workstation cos I need the extra room for studying and books and stuff like that.

So we've got this GREAT computer desk that is in perfectly wonderful condition (even has the assembly manual!!)----I think it's a total waste to throw away because it's a wonderful desk, and there's no way we could sell it b/c you can get a brand new one for relatively cheap at Ikea ($59 or so?)

We've asked people in our apartment building, people at my husband's work, people that we just know---and NO ONE WANTS IT....

Surely there's some DU'er in Western Washington who would be interested in having this computer desk!!! (BTW---if you want it, you'll have to pick it up because I'm not really into driving down to Portland, or up to Vancouver to deliver this thing).

If you're interested in this FREE...F-R-E-E computer desk, please let me know, either in this thread, or via PM----if you want more pictures or dimentions of it, let me know as well---- :)

Love you guys :)

1. Isn't Seattle the Gound Zero of computer furniture?
I'm picturing some sort of an interstate checkpoint where you're issued a computer desk upon entering Seattle City Limits, if you don't already have one...

I have the exact same desk, but now it's in the garage, where I use it as a rolling tool/winch cart. I't s pretty sturdy design, actually!

2. we want to use it for something
and if we had a house or a garage, or even a storage space we'd keep it, but we're apartment dwellers and our closets and under the bed (and every place else there is potential storage space) is chock full of the crap we've accumulated throughout our lives...sigh......

The desk *IS* sturdy. WE thought about modifying it so the back part doesn't slope down, but sits straight and using it as some kind of cart, but alas, we just don't have the room :)

3. If you find yourself headed east on I-90

You could drop it off to me in Roslyn! :) I NEED another puter desk, but won't be heading to Seattle anytime soon.

Hmmm.... well, at least til I head to a seminar on the 24th - over there, *somewhere*

Driving in Seattle totally freaks me out :scared:

7. Roslyn is on the way to Yakima!
84 miles east of Seattle, and 1 hour (not sure of the mileage) from Yakima - almost in the middle of the two.

A trip to Roslyn is a must for you - sounds like! They filmed Northern Exposure here, although I just moved here from MI in '98, so missed all the excitement.

The oldest operating saloon in the state is here - The Brick.

I was just in Yakima last night after work, actually. A friend of mine has a young (much too young!) daughter that is pregnant and because the daughter and I are friends as well I want to make her a quilt for the baby. Went fabric shopping!

Anyway - since you haven't been to Roslyn you should - historic little town, and kinda cool.

Have you heard of Cle Elum? Roslyn is 3 miles down the road from there, and about 1/2 hour west of Ellensburg.

I never used to have this "fear of driving" that I do now... when I first moved here I headed west to Seattle for a day just to check it out, and was fine. Of course, I had just driven from Michigan by myself, so Seattle was no biggie. After being here for a few years and walking almost everywhere, as well as not fighting traffic when I DO drive I have found I have developed an almost irrational fear of driving in traffic. In Seattle I am never quite sure where I am going, and in all that traffic I get freaked. I have to go to a seminar over there later in the month and am NOT looking forward to going. I will be driving the company rig - a big Durango, which makes it even worse.

If you're into camping you should definitely make it a point to head over my direction sometime - huge camping/hiking/kayaking/mountain biking/snowmobiling action going on around here.

5. um yeah...I hope this doesn't come across
as rude, but I don't know you---you only have one post, and I'm not comfy even getting involved in anything like this.

Thanks for the interest, though. I just don't feel comfy following up on this.

11. because I really don't want to be
toting this thing around Seattle looking for a place to leave it where they can pick it up, but no one else could.

I guess there are posters here that I know are from seattle and have been on DU longer than I have, and that I have no reason not to trust because I've either met them, or other people have, and I really wouldn't have any qualms about meeting them to give them the desk, but I just really don't feel comfortable doing this with someone that just signed onto the board today, only has 2 posts, both of them dealing with the desk. It just makes me a bit hesistant.

13. WE thought about that
but this is used---2 years old.

One can get a brand new one from Ikea for btwn $39-$59.

It would cost at least $20 to ship it, so even if we started the bidding at $5, that's $25 for a used, when $14 more can get you brand new.....

and plus I really don't want to have to box the thing up and ship it out---I'd rather just give it away to someone who wanted it, rather than Fuck with Ebay and figure out what a decent price would be, adn then box it up good enough to ship out (if anyone was willing to pay the $20 for shipping, which I doubt would happen...)

15. Call nonprofits?
I'm sure there may be a little political organization or social service agency who would appreciate a computer desk. Or maybe a university student? Maybe contact UW democrats and ask if a student wants a free desk - on livejournal or craigslist?
