Squirrels deserve some respect thread!!!!!!!!!
Do they mean to hurt anybody? Aren't they just going about their business as usual? :( Do they mean to wake us up in the morning with their chattering? Do they mean to look at people and laugh when they got a big fat peanut poking out their cheeks? :evilfrown:

They are sly, conniving, ornery, funny, and just kinda cute and all, with their big fluffy tails. I say, lay off disrespecting the squirrels......

1. I LOVE squirrels!
I always put some food for them on my balcony in the winter. They like sunflower seeds best, but they are very messy eaters and I always have shells to sweep. I figure I'm accomplishing a couple of things by feeding them: they get a meal and my cat is entertained (no, she can't get out to chase them).

Where IS she? Her eyelashes make my heart flutter.

But my stupid dogs always bark at them and wake me up.

22. I hit a one with my car this summer
Edited on Sat Sep-06-03 05:07 PM by Cheswick
I was on my way to my Environmental science class minding my own business. Here comes a gray squirrel running across the road and stops right in front of me, looks left, then right. Of course he ran right in the direction I decided to swerve.
After I hit him I started crying. Damn, good thing it wasn't a dear or I would have wanted to slit my wrists.

When I got to class my friend said she hit one also. We figured there must have been a tragedy in the squirrel community and they were commiting suicide.

24. And people are SO much better...
We don't spread disease or filth our water supplies or put carcinogens into the air or anything like that.

(Sorry but I get testy when I hear people talk about how this creature or that creature are nothing but vermin or filth when we do so much more damage to the planet and each other than they ever will.)

9. My cat's hunt squirels
The Barn Cats that live at my house when give birth they will bring in freshly killed food for their kittens. Most of the time they'd bring in ground squirels but, sometimes they get brown squirels.

14. Very good to eat, but the ones in my neighborhood, I treasure.
I bought a wonderful handmade feeder which uses a gallon glass jug and enjoy watching them. We just bought this old house my father built and I grew up in. It is covered with oak trees small enough to put your arms around. And they are all dying. Huge hunks of limbs fall every day. What is up with that? I am wondering if the squirrels are killing them, as I saw a Learning Channel show about the squirrels in England killing the trees by eating the bark. I never thought they would do that here in coastal Florida, but maybe the population is putting too much pressure on the resources.

23. I fee squirrels.
I feed everything, so it isn't a big surprise. I buy five lbs. of peanuts in-the-shell every four days. I have a little peanut dispenser on the trunk of my huge maple. I don't feed them in the spring, though. Squirrels aren't vicious animals, but they will eat bird's eggs and baby birds. They like to stand in the window and look inside--I think they're very smart animals, and the cute bushy tail helps, too.

25. i love squirrels...like em fried, like em stewed
I wouldn't have so much of an issue with squirrels if they just took what they could eat but they take it ALL and bury it and forget where it is and come back for MORE...kind of like Repugs.
