I think I've gotten the message (I hope)
I'm touched by the response from my posting about my rediculous habit of smoking on this thread:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=105&topic_id=166992

I thank those that replied and gave me a good thrashing about it :spank:

I sat down and calculated how much I spend a year on this (warning: these numbers are not for the feint of heart)

Avg. cost of 1 pack = $5.00
Approx. 2 packs per day = 2 * $5.00 = $10.00/per day
$70.19/per week
$304.17/per month
$3,650 PER YEAR!!!
:smoke::argh:

Well I don't know about you, but I'd love to have back that extra $300 a month. I really hope I'm going to do it this time, that I'm not going to fall back. It's time, time to let go of this.

5. Some encouragement guys.
Don't tell him where or how to get them cheaper if expense is his rationale for quitting. :spank:

Marlboros, Camels, etc, $20.99 a carton.

Last time I saw Basics advertised was $13.99 a carton.

Maybe you have different taxes there?

3. Theyre not cheap in NJ
And even at that price...

$20.99/10 = $2.10 per pack

$2.10 * 2 = $4.20 per day
$29.48 per week
$127.75 per month
$1,533 per year

7. That is an awful lot of money
And think of all the money is going to cost you in the long run in terms of your health. I quit 16 months ago and I take all the money I saved -- which is no longer going to Repug companies -- and spend it on liberal causes, donating here and to other organizations and campaigns as well as buying liberal magazines and books.

Make a plan, set a date, and stick to it. We'll all be here to help. There's a number of people who have quit with the help of the support that they receive here.

10. Congratulations!
Our inspiration in you is inspirational to me, so I'm going to quit too. Remember to try nicotine fading, and I agree with others who've recommended patches or Zyban (the Zyban was more helpful for me, but every person is different, and it's OK to use them together if under doctor's advice). Best of luck, and don't get discouraged.

14. Glad to hear it
I think I'm going to ask my doctor about zyban or the patch, since while going at it cold turkey is admirable, its been very uneffective in my case.

Now what to do with that extra cash....I think if it happens this time another donation to DU would be on the list. :bounce:
