26. I thought that was your motive in posting this
I was going to suggest that you at least throw you own candidate into the fray...so we can see if they point you are trying to make about Dean supporters also applies to some of you Kucinich people.

I voted for Dean because I am Jewish, so I don't really have any allegience to Jesus. He was a good guy (and definitely a liberal for his time), but he failed in his mission as a prophet, so I would dismiss him as part of the ineffective leader category. Sorry if I am offending any Christians here...I just look at Jesus in a strictly historical sense and do not see him as anything more than a biblical prophet.

and the Constitution is quite explicit that one must be a natural born citizen in order to be President of the US.

Article 2, Section 1, US Constitution:

No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty five years, and been fourteen Years a resident within the United States.

also, as other posters have rightly pointed out, many people do not see Jesus in the same light as Christians do.

Perhaps the poster that started this thread should have added his preferred candidate's name to his poll, instead of trying to be pathetically cute.

11. nice poll...
although I am a bit concered that my fellow Dean supporters are voting for Dean over the big JC.

----

I really think Jesus would be a Democrat if he were alive these days

Here's why:

Welfare - Yes
Gun Control - Yes
National Health Care - Yes
Progressive Taxation - Yes
Death Penalty Abolition - Yes (as a victim, I can almost guarantee that he would be opposed to this)
Anti-War - Yes
Equal Rights for All - Yes
Pro-Evironment - Yes
Pro Worker/Union - Probably Yes

I think the touchy points would be Abortion and maybe some issues regarding homosexuality.

I think we can assume with a high degree of confidence that he would be against abortion. Probably not anywhere near some the level of viciousness that the fundies are, but I think he would be rather opposed.

I also think that he would be against gay marriage, but I think he would still believe in giving GLBT's equal civil rights. This one is tough, and I guess it could go either way.

-----

Am I sure that this has been talked about before, but the freepers and other conservatives need to see it more often.

17. JC was AGAINST any sort of selfishness....
...homosexuality 'in general' has a very selfish attiude behind it. However, from what I understand (and it's not much) there does seem to be a magnamous (sp?) sort of homosexual relationship that can exist where there is real love...where it puts the needs of 'the other' in front of the needs of 'oneself'...that's where I think it can (and does) all get tricky.

33. I recommend that you google the words gay, promiscuous, and myth
I'm neither gay nor promiscuous, thus have little insight into the question of selfishness. Regardless, gays are no more promiscuous than heterosexuals. And Jesus, unless I've been misinformed, would forgive selfish people as he did tax collectors, prostitutes and any other sinners who crossed his path.

96. We can't assume he'd be against abortion.
From the standpoint of his Jewish heritage, doesn't Judaism not only allow but even recommend abortion in certain hardship circumstances?

As an individual and moral leader, Jesus was unusually egalitarian
for his time. He _wouldn't_ have liked laws that drove women to desperate measures like dangerous, illegal abortions.

I suspect he'd have been more concerned about the well-being of children who are already here.

People like him are better suited for theocracies like Calvin's Switerzland, etc. BTW Ive discussed this with my grandmother a devout Catholic and she thinks Judge Moore is a fool who is trying to force his religious beliefs on public places.

BTW reading this bio of him, I would hate have Captain Moore as much as I would Judge Moore and btw Roy get a life dude, you arent a matryl you are a man who believes forcing his private and religious beliefs on the public is ok and I think to hate to emulate your type you are the anti american trying to force people to think the way you do.

76. The "Burma Shave" tag line after "Jesus Saves" should have been

enough of a clue but I decided to leave nothing to doubt. :-)

Actually, what I said was just historical fact. What the meaning of "Jesus Saves" is can be (and is) disputed but no one could argue that many people have not found "saving grace" through Christianity. Similar spiritual experiences occur in other faiths as well, of course.

Throughout history, the Christian faith has won some and lost some but continues to campaign for Jesus, who declared himself over 2000 years ago. You don't get much in the way of nuance from my imitation"Burma Shave" doggerel but it's the bare bones of Christian history.

If for no other reason than to REALLY shake up Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, and the rest of the "Christian" gang who somehow can't read the New Testament.

Hard not to like the guy.

Jesus/Buddha
Maybe they think hes too liberal and thus unelectable. Maybe people also think his image is bad, you know having long hair and a beard is never something middle america likes. Now I must chuckle I basically I said the reasons why people have a hard time supporting Kucinich with different specifics on Jesus. LOL but still I like my vote for Jesus.
Sorry about that guys I could have sworen it was a jesus picture. Ooops and so red from embarassment.

93. I go to Catholic school...
but I could only really qualify as "undecided".

But this tri I got a really cool theology class called "Moral Justice" and we're concentrating on how, as Catholics, we have a duty to do good, etc.

The first day she touched on: Abolishing the Death Penalty, a living wage, workers and human rights, the environment, and encouraging life. Sound familiar?

This is the first theology class that I like!

98. "Abolishing the Death Penanlty"!!! (TANGENT)
My Catholic school LIKED the death penalty!!!
It was the ONLY thing they disagreed with the Vatican on!!
Man, I went to the most conservative fvcking Catholic school EVER!
FVCK!! That pisses me off, you get to take "Moral Justice", thats not fair! "History of the Catholic Church" wasn't bad, but "Moral Justice" that kicks ass! Thats so cool.
Is this Catholic highschool or college?
This should go somewhere else, its so off topic, oh well.
