It keeps glitching out. Sometimes it goes to a completely blank screen, and sometimes to a blur of green and violet. Sometimes I have to turn it off and on again to restore the picture, and sometimes it flicks back by itself.
The problem's gradually gotten worse over the last couple of months.
So what do you think? Is it worth fixing?
Thanks for your thoughts!

1. Fixable? Yes. Worth fixing? No. |
|
Unfortunately (for the waste stream today) it is almost always cheaper to just buy a new monitor than fix an old one.
If you can afford it, get a flat panel LCD monitor. They consume far less power and generally have a very long life.

Monitors are really inexpensive these days. But before you give up hope, be sure and recheck all your connections.

Did you check the cable connecting it to your computer ? Is your video card loose? Do you know how to uninstall and reinstall the videocard drivers? How old is the monitor ? Is it a CRT (like your TV) or LCD(flat panel)?

6. Cables are connected properly, |
|
Not sure about video card or the drivers, but it's acting like an old TV once did before we replaced it. It's about 6 years old, flat screen Trintron (Dell).
And it's getting worse by the moment. I've had to click off and on about 10 times writing this message... :(

Looks like a real space-saver compared to this one. Ours takes up as much room from front to back as it does from side to side!
Thanks for the link!

Monitors are a part of the computer that is usually not repaired. The reason is like so many other things, it's cheaper to replace it than it is to fix it. The old CRT monitors are relatvely cheap. You can test your monitor to make sure it is the cause of your problems by connecting it to another computer. If you get the same results, your monitor is hosed. If your monitor suddenly looks great when hooked up to another computer your video card is dying. My guess is dying monitor.

Make sure the vents are all vacuumed clear.
Maybe it's shutting down to prevent overheating.

14. It might be your video card |
|
One way to test the possibility that your video card is the culprit, hook the monitor up to a different computer (you can connect it to a laptop as well) and see if you have the same problem.
If it works fine on a different computer, I'd say there is a problem with the video card.
If it's the video card, there can be any number of reasons. But it's best to start out one thing at a time to narrow down the possibilities. So, try out the monitor on a different computer and let us know what happens.
