Warren Zevon dead
http://www.usatoday.com/life/music/news/2003-09-08-zevon-dies_x.htm

Warren Zevon, who struggled with terminal cancer while finishing his latest album, The Wind, died Sunday in his sleep at his home in West Hollywood, Calif., a spokesman said. Zevon was 56. He was the author of such wry tunes as Werewolves of London and I'll Sleep When I'm Dead.

His illness, diagnosed a year ago, resonated in the lyrics of his new album. He beseeched in the fragile Please Stay, "Will you stay with me to the end?"

17. The appropriate Bush line in...
... "Lawyers, Guns and Money" is, of course, "Dad, get me outta this!"

Saw him once, very briefly, in a club in Boston (before I got thrown out)... diminutive stature, big talent.

If there's a heaven, Warren's application papers are being approved right now.

12. He can sleep at last
Peace to Warren, and at last an end to his pain...

Thanks for all the great tunes. Your legacy is assured.

I got to meet Warren some years back at a small club in Seattle. I won't forget his firm handshake and the way he pierced me with that look only he can give, lol. I treasure the personal autograph he gave me. He will always be one of my very favorites for all time.

Like the mystics and statistics say it will
I predict this motel will be standing

Pina Coladas at Trader Vic's.

A superb talent that's already missed.

15. Good night, Warren! -Roland, the Headless Thompson Gunner...
....(another fine Zevon song about mercenaries in Africa).
Shit. He was great, and he faced death with remarkable courage and good humor.
Remember what he said about living when he appeared on Letterman: "Enjoy every...sandwich!"

19. Saw him in Portland, Maine
At the age of 15.

During that period in time, I was working on pressuring my Senator to vote against the funds for Contras in Nicaragua.

Needless to say, his music inspired many a long and depressing night at the phone banks calling irate Reaganites and trying to get them to oppose their idol...

Zevon was a great, a real great.

I hope he can stay up all night listening to Mohammed's radio...

23. Well he was just an exciteable boy
"Life it'll kill ya" is a song on his last album.

How strange to be able to know that you are making your last album.

He was great.
