Well, I'm off to Victoria BC for two months... |
|
Leaving tomorrow. I usually work in Vancouver, but this particular contract takes me to the Provincial Capitol until October 30.
So, there I'll be, in the land of amazing pot, world-class sex workers, double-decker busses, and abundant scooter rental agents, and I don't smoke pot! Sometimes I think Canadian Citizenship is wasted on me.
Incidentally, I used to work within a sex worker advocacy/rights group, and one of the projects under development was the unionization of the BC sex trade. Imagine that! And Victoria will be the test model for the project.
Anyhoo--get this... I had kind of short notice about this contract, and was having a difficult time arranging accommodation. In the eleventh hour, I found a place literally on the shore of the Straight, within binocular range of an active Orca pod, and a panoramic view of the Pacific. I'll be sitting in a hot-tub every evening watching the cruise ships and RCN Pacific Fleet sail in and out of Esquimalt, and the Orca and eagles competing for salmon!
The downside is that my internet connection will be spotty at best, so I may not be kickin' around DU as often as I like. Also, Mrs. Amok will not be able to visit too often, due to scheduling issues.
But, hopefully I won't miss too much in the Lounge during my away time--I feel like y'all are a kind of extended family, and I will be thinking fondly of you!

Greetings from the "other side"! Go to Tofino and visit Hot Springs Cove. Nanaimo has great food and beautiful women. Inner harbor buskers are always a pleasant distraction. Enjoy! Enjoy!

4. I feel I've misrepresented myself. |

We live just North of Nanaimo. It's just that I usually work in Vancouver, and Victoria is juuuust a little too far to drive daily (it's only 1.5 hours, but the Malahat Pass is something I'd rather not do when tired!)

Just wait until you see one of our new double-decker buses take out a lamppost globe ... (no kidding, someone miscalculated how high the new Victoria Regional Transit vehicles are ...)

I went to Vancouver and Victoria for four days just over labor day weekend for the first time - it was incredible!
