Do you like White Castle hamburgers? |
|
And do you prefer the frozen-in-the-store version to the ones in the fast food joints?

dont know why.
I think they are "ok", not necessarily my favorite fast food.
I didnt know they sold them frozen, though.

While the frozen ones make an good snack, they lack something that makes the real ones appealing.
When I went to college in Ann Arbor I used to drive out to this one when it'd be real real late and most places were closed.

But I'll add it on the list with the other stuff we don't have in the Great White NOrth like, Jack-in-the box, Sonic, Carl's Junior, and Hundred thousand dollar bars.

When I was a kid, Dad would take us to White Castle after we left Riverfront Stadium to watch the (70's Big Red Machine-era) Reds. We usually made the 1.5 hour trip a few times over the course of the summer, and sliders became a very special part of my childhood memories. There weren't any White Castles close to home, and the trip was part of what made them taste so good.
Later, when I was in college, the closest White Castle was about two hours away. I couldn't count the number of times one of my friends or myself would get the urge to have some sliders in the middle of the night, and walk around the dorm waking people up to make the roadtrip, with just enough time to make it back for the first class of the day.
They built one in town a few years ago, and I hardly ever go there. I still love 'em, but something has been lost in the easy accessibility. I'm more likely to grab some when I'm out of town for some reason. I suppose there's something about a lengthy drive that makes them taste better. (I believe Pavlov had a little something to say about that phenomenon.)
But enough nostalgia from me: Has anyone else noticed that when you fart after eating sliders, it doesn't smell that much different from when they were still in the bag?
You should always eat the first one before you exit the parking lot if you're driving through as well. Really. You should. (spelling edit)

There was a White Castle in Sunnyside, NY that had waitresses that would come out to the car. My dad use to let us take our German Shepard with us and it usually freaked out the waitresses. Especially when we ordered 40 burgers and half were for the dog.
