|
What a colossal waste of time and energy and money.
Just got back from the grocery store in line behind a couple of mullets buyin' racks of Coors and Bud.
Who's playin' tonight?
And what is this Britney shit?

A very colossal waste of money. They can kill each other all they want, but not for the ridiculously high pay they get.
We may as all well become professional sports players, there's more incentive to do that than anything else in this foresaken country... :-(

Want colossal waste of money? Check out the MLB or the ugh, NHL. The NFL's salary cap is the dream of owners and the nightmare for players' unions.

Well, maybe if you're the poor sap that got cut from a million dollar deal for dropping a pass in pre-season, but how is the NFL so much more "fascist" than any other high stakes sports league?
Hockey's my favourite sport and I love the NHL, but that is seriously the worst league of pro sports. The owners and GMs need to stamp down the greedy players' salaries, which causes ticket prices to skyrocket. Also, it'd be nice if our American brethren would take a more widespread interest, and TV deals would be much more lucrative. I believe the stats are something like this: The average NFL salary is like 1 million dollars, and they make 6 billion from TV deals. The average NHL salary is 2.5 million and the TV deals are only worth 200 million. And they wonder why the league is failing.

Saying that I 'hate' the NFL and posting it in the lounge is quite different than being a "freeper". It just ain't the sam kind of hate.
If you stay around long enough, you will find that I am somewhat loveable. :-)

40. I think the poster was referring to the SPECIFIC threads about football... |
|
which are all using the word "hate" in the title.
I personally think that the over-reactive word is used because men like you, who post these threads, are secretly really, really defensive about the fact that you don't like football.
As much as you're trying to make a statement that it should be perfectly fine if you don't like sports (which it is)--you still show your true feelings (defensiveness) by using words like "hate" for something as trivial as a sporting event.
If you really were completely unconcerned with football and sports, you simply wouldn't care that millions of people spend their Saturdays or Sundays engaging in a totally harmless activity that has nothing to do with you. You wouldn't have any reaction at all.

23. I try not to let it concern me |
|
I couldn't care less about the NFL or the game of football in general. If it were my choice it would be so far outside of my radar screen that I wouldn't even have to be concerned with feeling strongly enough about it to hate it. As things stand, being forced to deal with its constant presence in my life by obsessed friends and family, I try to acknowledge its existence through displaying general indifference hoping someone will take the hint that whenever football is on I'd rather be doing anything else than watching it. So far no one- at least, among males- has gotten the clue, but I've grown pretty good at staring straight into the TV screen feigning interest without actually paying attention to a damn thing that's going on in the game. And that's my life...

26. I no longer allow the NFL to own so much of my time. |
|
A basic sport has been turned into so much noise and hype that I haven't watched an NFL game in years, or more likely decades.
Most American pro sports are unwatchable because of the high-octane decibels and a tsunami of mind-rattling commercials.
It's really easy to skip this stuff.

I was never too heavily involved but when I was in college it was the Dawn of the "Build us a stadium or we will leave" era and I totally lost interest from there. There were many things that led up to it but it is too pedestrian for my tastes.
The game is classless and not sporting. Warren Sapp wearing an Eagles jersey after winning the NFC title game last year was a great example of what kind of marginal fools participate in that league which openly encourages that behavior.

He wore it as a tribute to the late Jerome Brown, the Eagles' all-pro defensive tackle who died in a car crash in the mid-90s. Brown, like Sapp, played college ball at the Univ. of Miami.

I found it overly restrictive. I played rugby for 15 years. I had to remain on the pitch for attack and defence against men of many different sizes. Everyone is responsible for tackling, the kicker doesn't get to ponce out.
American footballers are pansies compared to rugby players.

I have a REAL life. I don't need to gather with 3-4-5 or so other little boys on Monday night or all day Sunday, wearing over-priced "LICENSED Team Logo" clothing, drinking too much beer, eating too many fat-ridden snax, getting upset living vicariously watching a bunch of over-paid entertainers on the Glass Tit.
Shit, I can't get my kitchen cleaned or my laundry done in the course of a week as it is now.
