4. Letterman is awesome...

I was just discussing this with an old friend. I hadn't watched him in a few years, then picked up again about a year ago. He's better than he's ever been, and is starting to reach the level of Johnny Carson.

I'm still pissed he didn't get the Tonight Show. I've watched Leno twice since Johnny left and I can't stand it.

Letterman is funnier than ever, and so incredibly at ease. He'll be a TV legend.

who only got the tonight show by having helen kushnick screw johnny carson into retirenment and then play dirty tricks on his competition. as soon as he was established, jay dumped her as she conflicted with his 'nice guy' image.

tonight has really slid into the dung heap w/ jay. free ad time for arnold, snubbing davis, demonizing peace activists in the monologue, dated clinton jokes well into the bush years, etc. a far cry from carson, who'd give equal time to gore vidal to balance out someone like bob hope when vietnam was going on.

and, most importantly, jay just isn't funny.

6. I remember the show where Warren announced his upcoming death

He did it on Letterman too. That was also a very brutally honest and funny show. Zevon had a knack for making surreal things sound normal. He wasn't much into crying about his fate, he was just determined to do as much as he could with the time he had left.

"Lawyers, Guns and Money" was always one of my favorite songs. The second the vote fraud in Florida was being challenged by Gore I sent the lyrics for that song out to my politico friends. It will always be the 2000 coup anthem for me. I just wish the Dems had sent as many lawyers, guns and as much money as the repukes did.

"Excitable Boy" is my second favorite.

Rest in peace Warren.

and you can honestly tell they were great friends with a mutual admiration society. It was honest and real. I didn't expect anything less.
