3. There are 3 major types of Bar-room brawls
There is the Green Dem Progressive and then there are the candidate bashathons which are a more lighthearted version of Campaigns. Finally we have a miscelaneous category best summed up as Issues in which people engage in flame wars over everything from foreign policy to what the hell is wrong with ______.

7. Don't you know that the Lounge is a hiding place for Freepers
according to GD legend people work up a high post-count in the lounge and then raid GD with a false cloak of established respectability.

10. Just telling him that retreating to the lounge to avoid GD flame wars
only increases the suspicion of the GDers and will lead to more violent attacks upon returning.

9. A verbal barfight that's Dem v.s. Green v.s. Progressive v.s. Liberal
Well said. I am a Green and have my gloves packed with enriched uranium everytime the issue comes up!

11. It's the junkdrawer of DU -- but that's not a bad thing
Or it's similar to what they say about Boston weather -- if you don't like it now, wait 15 minutes and it will be something different.

I try to avoid the flamefests. Despite that, I'll admit I don't see much thoughtful and reasoned discussion of the issues of the day.

But what I do see is a large number of highly intelligent and politically engaged individuals wrestling at every level with the problem of being human at this particular point in space and time. And that's more than worth the price of admission. :-)

12. Some days
It's like an open market for ideas, a place I can feel a kinship and learn valuable things. Some days, it's where Jerry Springer get's his ideas.
