2. The Sunday Crossword Puzzle.
I once read where it took Bill Clinton an average of 20 minutes to finish the NY Times Sunday crossword puzzle. I wonder how long it would take Dubya?

4. NYT lately
Has any one noticed that The New York Times' slant has been distinctly pro-Bush of late? Their political analyses all carry a distinct spin that is anything but balanced reportiing. Other than Krugmand (and sometimes Dowd--Friedman I now find nauseating) I have become more leery of this paper.

Used to also like their book reviews, but here again there appears to be an unhealthy pandering to commercial interests. Maybe I am just getting old and grumpy. :-(

5. Actually, I think their editorial board is Bush-skeptical
See today's lead editorial for example.

Their political reportage, however, totally sucks. I don't know how it's ever going to change. They're far from being alone in having whores for political reporters.

10. yeah they increase in difficulty
monday is easiest, tuesday a bit harder, etc.

someone told me that the sunday is supposed to be set at "thursday" difficulty, but with a bigger puzzle... anyone know for sure?

imo, the crossword is the ONLY reason to buy the nyt. the rest of it you can get online for free.

11. I've noticed that they run in two week cycles
The first Monday of the cycle is practically a baby puzzle. One week later, it's a little harder than you expect a Monday puzzle to be. The first weekend's puzzles are not quite as murderous as the second weekend's.

Am I imagining this?

7. I'm partial to the acrostic
For awhile, I was buying the Sunday edition only every other week, just for the acrostic.

8. Boobies
Edited on Tue Sep-09-03 10:23 AM by underpants
I had a telemarketer call me from the NYT and I realized it was a telemarketer so I went into a voice that irritates the hell out of my wife. Billy Crystal did it in "Running Scared" and if done correctly it is hard for the caller to tell if I am a woman, man, elderly, mentally handicapped/retarded, a child....most anything.

After about five minutes I asked the guy if the NYT had "boobies" he said that yes indeed it did have boobies in it, check the style section on Sundays.

I finally got out of that voice and the guy was howling laughing. I always ask what/who he thought I was and he said he had no idea.

I once kept a girl on the phone for 45 minutes and when I finally came clean you could hear the laughter behind her, the whole phone bank must have stopped to listen.

12. I read it on online
Sometimes I do get the mag to do the Sunday crossword. I enjoy all the info, especially international and travel.

Mostly, I don't like the paper stacking up in my house. Reading online is a good option.
