I got frostbite in both hands and both feet while camping with my Boy Scout troop back in 1965. It did permanent damage (though not enough to require any amputation), and my hands and feet go numb if I'm out in the cold for more than a few minutes.

As a result I do not participate in any outdoor activities in the wintertime.

But I did get a doctor's note that said I couldn't go camping from November until March, unless we were in cabins.
