Man Mails Self Home to Parents
Man Mails Self Home To Parents

DALLAS -- Charles McKinley found a unique way to save a few bucks getting to his parents' house: He crawled into a wooden airplane cargo crate and succeeded in shipping himself from New York to Texas via Fort Wayne.

After hours of traveling, the 25-year-old New York City man pried open the crate with a crowbar Saturday morning. He popped up outside his parents' doorstep in the south Dallas suburb of DeSoto, shook the hand of a shocked delivery man and walked away. The delivery man called DeSoto police, who arrested him on outstanding Texas warrants.

Officials said McKinley's crate was put aboard a pressurized Boeing 727 from Kennedy International Airport to Fort Wayne. The crate was transferred to a second plane bound for Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. The FBI and the Transportation Security Administration are investigating.

An FBI spokeswoman says it's amazing McKinley survived. Officials say he spent at least half a day in the crate.

Of course, I'm just jealous, because I considered this years ago yet lacked the cajones to go through with it. :)

1. The key to this sort of stunt
Don't be in there more than, say, 36 hours or so. And go ground. Ground is critical. Air is where it gets dangerous.

Oh, and don't let the delivery people know you did it, since it's apparently not legal.

3. A local DJ did this a few years ago.
He had a cell phone with him and at one point he sounded absolutely pitiful during the middle of his trip. He was in an airplane and was freezing.

5. So passengers will now be "color coded"
but commercial cargo is obviously not being screened. What if this guy had been a terrorist and had explosives with him? Push the detonate button in his little crate midair and *POW*---no more jet.

Yep...I feel much safer now that the wonderful Department of Homeland Security has things under control!! (sarcasm off)
