Suggestions on a care package to Japan? |
|
My boss is an American living in Japan. I'm putting together a package for her for Boss's Day. Her sister says that the big thing she misses is food; her two suggestions were canned tuna and sunflower seeds.
I was wondering if anyone here had any suggestions regarding food they missed while in Japan. The only time I lived abroad, it was in the UK, so I can't go on my own experience.
And what, you may ask, has she done to earn a gold star among bosses? Well, I grant you, the first time I heard about Boss's Day, I snapped to an earlier boss, "Every day is Boss's Day!" but my current boss is great. When I told her that I would have to go back to the university (the big corporate employer in my area) to get health benefits because mine from being laid off from there were running out, she said, "No, I don't want you working there." (She knows I hated it there.) "I'll pay for your health insurance."
I pointed out that I do her books and I know she can't afford it. I pointed out that I'm a decade older than she is, and that I have a medical history no insurer is going to take cheaply. "It's my job to find and allocate resources. It's yours to do your job."
Is she fabulous or what? One of the reasons I hope Kerry gets elected is so that it doesn't cost her much to pay for my health insurance!
Thanks for any suggestions from any DUers who've lived in Nippon!
