Favorite Bushism from the debate
Here's mine: "That's why it's essential that we make sure that we keep weapons of mass destruction out of the hands of people like Al Qaeda, which we are."

I've been reading this serial transcript at cnn.com: http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/09/30/debate.transcript.1/index.html. I only watched a few minutes of it - been shunning the television because there's no need to sicken myself when I've already made up my mind.

I haven't read the whole thing, and I'm sure there are many more. I had a hard time deciding between "people like Al Qaeda" and the one about it being hard work to love her as best he can, but that really wasn't very funny.

2. "It's hard work"
He must have said that like 50 times... my mom, who is a Republican who will likely vote for Kerry, said it seemed like he just said that when he was getting flustered. I found it quite amusing... seemed like he was making excuses for his failures.

3. "I see on the TV screens how hard it is."
from NY Times

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/01/politics/campaign/01t...

Mr. Bush, who seemed to grow tired as the night wore on, repeatedly used the phrase "hard work" to describe the war in Iraq. Mr. Kerry repeatedly referred to his first-hand experience sending men into battle in Vietnam, and that seemed to unnerve Mr. Bush. The president said he understood that fighting was hard work and added, "I see on the TV screens how hard it is."

That one jumped out at me because my first thought was that he had no idea what he was sending our young men and women into. If he gets his impressions of war from what he sees on TV, no wonder the country is in this mess.

Kerry has been in a war so I think the monkey would have done better to say nothing rather than to blither, "It's hard work to get the casualty reports every day. I see the war on the TV screens...!"

I about fell out of my chair.

He has seen the war on TV!!!

Well, whooty whoot for him!

31. "That's Just Absurd!"
Edited on Fri Oct-01-04 07:55 AM by ProfessorGAC
Li'l Georgie wouldn't know absurdity from aspargus if it fell in his lap. That was obviously a word he was coached to use somewhere along the line.

First, there was nothing absurd about what Kerry said. Somebody should have gotten Mr. Silver Spoon a dictionary. He may not agree with what Kerry said, but his use of that word indicated that he didn't understand the word, didn't really understand what Kerry said, and was just gut reacting to the fact that he just got bodyslammed.

Secondly, the tone clearly indicated the petulance that folks like me find so galling about this frat boy, and small, small man. (And, i don't mean physically small.) He got rhetorically whacked and got pissy. Figures.

I thought that moment was the start of the meltdown.
The Professor

Were "Don't forget Poland!" "mexed missages," "I KNOW THAT," and then the vomitorious story about how Bush met with a dead soldier's wife and "tried to love her as best I could."

Actually, my very favorites were the long, long deer-in-headlights silences from the president. Could it get any more transparent than that?

56. A couple of Bushisims
1) "The enemy understands a free Iraq will be a major defeat in their ideology of hatred. That's why they're fighting so vociferously.

Definition of vociferous:

: marked by or given to vehement insistent outcry
- vo·cif·er·ous·ly adverb
- vo·cif·er·ous·ness noun
synonyms VOCIFEROUS, CLAMOROUS, BLATANT, STRIDENT, BOISTEROUS, OBSTREPEROUS mean so loud or insistent as to compel attention.

2} "I've got a good relation with Vladimir. And it's important that we do have a good relation, because that enables me to better comment to him..."

the act of telling or recounting

Bush has always exhibited extremely poor grammatical and syntactical skills.

57. Bush the fundie preacher
Just want to add this part from the debate:

Bush: We've climbed the mighty mountain. I see the valley below, and it's a valley of peace.

The man comes across so poorly. Throughout the debate he attempted to employ his stump speech rhetoric, and it pretty much fell flat. He clearly exhibited that he doesn't really know what is going on within the US, or any understanding on a global level. He appeared to only show he knows how to parrot those words he has been fed, or perhaps can only remember those words he has practiced through his continued repetition while campaigning.
