56. Another Church fan! Yay!
I haven't listened to too much since Priest=Aura, but I did get Box of Birds a couple of years ago. The Iggy Pop cover was cool.

When Kilbey hit the junk their stuff started sounding like he was maturbating with himself. Supposedly he's clean now.

I was psycho about them in the 80s. Did a pencil drawing of them from the back of Remote Luxury and got them all to sign it when they toured for Heyday.

59. Cool!! An ex-girlfriend of mine is in the "Reptile" video
They filmed the vid at a show in Minneapolis that my girlfriend was at. So that's her little claim to fame!

Their recent stuff has actually been pretty good. "Magician Among the Spirits" grew on me over the course of a year, and it's now one of my favorites (although many others slam it mercilessly). They're still one of my all-time favorites though. They're one of the main reasons I play an electric 12-string guitar. Them and the Byrds of course!

FWIW,

My claim to fame is being somewhere in the Godfathers video for "I'm Lost and Then I'm Found", which they filmed at the Back Room in Austin around 88 or so.

I'm in the back of the crowd, but I'm there! :D

I actually had a copy of "Magician Among the spirits" a few years ago, but it went in one of those "eat or listen" purges.

I need to buy all my old Church stuff back. I REALLY need a copy of "Of Skins and Heart." I've been craving hearing "Bel Air" again.

...and they were actually pretty good.

Oh, here's a few of theirs, all of which played on US radio:

"Who Can It Be Now?"
"Land Down Under"
"Ghosts Appear"

Underrated, IMHO. And a hell of a lot better than Mental As Anything ever were.

60. You forget THE CHILLS
One of NZ's finest exports. "Heavenly Pop Hits" is one of the greatest hit singles of all time (although it never charted in the US).

Also, I gotta give a nod to Sherbet/The Sherbs, who had a couple of minor US radio hits in the early 80s with "No Turning Back" and "We Ride Tonight". Not bad for a bubblegum/hard rock band.

So I tossed a coin. They were indeed a hard act to follow.

BTW if you like the Church, Kilbey or the other guy produced Mae Moore's "Bohemia".

A fantastic album from about 1993, and she's from Vancouver Island to boot! Plus she married a musician named Lester Quitzau who I happened to go to high school with, although I didn't know that until years after the fact.

Anyway, check it out.
