Saturday Night Live kicks off its 30th season this weekend
(can't they get will ferrell to make a return appearance as bush for the debate sketch?)

30th season of 'SNL': Nervous excitement

Saturday Night Live kicks off its 30th season this weekend (NBC, 11:30 ET/PT). And Lorne Michaels, the executive producer who created the show, is feeling the three decades.

"I wish there was a point I could say this thing runs itself," says Michaels, who added that he's "just as nervous" as he was when the series began.

SNL said goodbye to Jimmy Fallon (news) at the end of last season. But losing talent never seems to faze the show; it remains the highest-rated late night offering. Last season, it averaged 7.6 million viewers.

The big question is: Will Tina Fey anchor Weekend Update alone with Fallon gone? Michaels says she'll have a co-host, but he wouldn't say who.

1. It could easily open with a 20 second silent, deer in the headlights
Bush, before he finally stammers out, Live, from....

2. Would be great if Will Ferrell returned to
do his * impersonation. He was just perfect at it. Who knows? Maybe he will. I know he is for Kerry and has done * imitations campaigning for Kerry. Would be nice. Wonder who will play Kerry?

3. Seth Meyers plays Kerry
and quite well I think.

It sounds like they're going to have Darrell Hammond do Bush again to start this year. It's a mistake, he does a HORRIBLE Bush (a great Cheney though)

Late last season they had Will Forte doing Bush and I thought he was ten times better than Hammond.

In other news, they've added a guy named Rob Riggle to the cast. He is supposedly an ex-marine turned comic/actor.

4. It should have been laid to rest at least 20 years ago.

5. Nahhh...long live SNL!
Laid to rest 20 years ago? That would mean a lot less humorous people in the world. I grew up watching SNL from 1983 onward (I was 5 when I started watching it). I couldn't imagine a world without Saturday Night Live.

Sure some people don't like it and I guess that is understandable. Not everybody has the same type of humor that SNL shows. That's why there's Mad TV.

10. I was 5 when I started watching it, too
but that would be in '75! My parents were too cool to let me stay up to watch it. Good thing I lived in IL and Central time. In the Eastern time zone, I would have never seen it!

I am happy to say I saw all of the great (and not so great) moments on that show. It probably helped create my sense of humor, or at least showed me that there are many types of humor in the world.

6. It is what it always has been.
Hit and miss.

But when it's good, it's outstanding.
