4. Cubs fan here
If I had to pick my poison (Astros or the Giants) to go to the playoffs, I would choose the Giants no question.

The Giants are the more deserving team - they've played the tougher schedule and have played more consistently good baseball over the season. The Astros have just been streaky.

Plus I hate the Astros (perhaps more than the Cards...). :)

8. There are two teams that I love to see lose
The Dodgers and the Dallas Cowboys. Sorry for any Dodger or Cowboy fans, but if I have followed sports at all, it has been to see them lose, more than to see another favorite team win. The Dodgers (and I live in the L.A. area) have always struck me as the Republicans of the sports world. They were always clean cut even when the Oakland A's and other teams were wearing moustaches and long hair. The Dodgers had "Dodger Family" programs on radio where they pushed Republican family and Christian values by showing what goody-goody families the Dodgers players had. Rick Monday became a great Dodger hero not for his athletic abilities (he left his best games behind when he was traded to Chicago by the Oakland As) but for his stunt in saving an American flag from burning in centerfield by Vietnam war protestors. Steve Garvey was always enemy number one to me for his conservative hypocrisy. And Vin Skully, even though he might be a very knowledgeable baseball person and a decent man has always made my skin crawl. I CAN'T STAND LISTENING TO THE SOB!!! His sing-song nasal voice and his unsportsman-like behavior when it came to the Dodgers (a real homer announcer if you know what I mean - who out of spite would often not interview a winning team member of the opposing team when the Dodgers had a particularly tough loss but instead interviewed a Dodger on the radio) make me want to vomit. And fuck Farmer John and his Dodger Dogs.

9. right on
I always percieved Vin Scully as an articulate suckass who loved the sound of his own voice. Jon Miller does a hilarious imitation of Vin Scully calling a game in Japanese.

10. Uh....
slight correction on your Rick Monday reference...I believe that "flag rescue" happened in 1976, so I doubt the flag burners were Vietnam War protestors, unless they got really high and missed the end of the war a year earlier.
