Mel Gibson Gets Court Order Against Praying Fan
Edited on Sat Oct-02-04 01:25 AM by Champ
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Mel Gibson, producer and director of "The Passion of the Christ," has obtained a restraining order against a man he says stalked him to demand that they pray together, according to court papers.

Zack Sinclair, a 34-year-old homeless man, also has sent a number of letters that Gibson described in a court declaration filed on Sept. 21 as "alarming, harassing and annoying."

Gibson said Sinclair came to his Malibu home on two consecutive days last month and "demanded to see me, saying that he wanted to pray with me."

After he was "told to leave and not return," Sinclair showed up at Gibson's church the following day and "approached me, interrupted my worship, stood extremely close (approximately six inches) from me and demanded that I pray with him," Gibson said in the statement.

When Sinclair returned to the actor's home again the next day, Gibson's wife called police and had him arrested.

1. Well, when you market yourself to loonies
this is what you get I guess.

I wonder if anybody ever wanted to pray with him after Lethal Weapon 3?

8. Ah yes, thanks
I can never get over how much these religions of Christ act so...un-Christ-like.

14. wait a min...
Love Mel or hate him, I can't blame the guy one bit. How many whackos that show up on your doorstep that demand to pray with you do you actually let into your house?

That's weeeeirrrrdd..... He had every right to get the nutcase away from him and his family.

Think about it.... sane people don't track down Mel Gibson to pray with him. :-)

7. BTW He is Catholic only in his own mind.
It seems the Church was too "liberal " for Mel. You know that wild and crazy Pope. Mel thinks the Mass should be in Latin and women shouldn't serve communion. So, he started his own Church which he says is more Catholic than the Catholic Church because the Pope is a radical liberal! Whew! Got that?

3. why was he worried?
Why would Gibson be "alarmed" that someone would want to come off the street and bask in Christ's glory with him? After all, it's not like there are nutcases out there trying to use Jesus to cheat people, right Mel?

5. Didn't Jesus Hang Out with the Poor and Homeless?
Or is Mel's Jesus more like Supply Side Jesus?

9. "Republican" cancels out "Christian"
I worked in a Christian bookstore for five years. The stuff I saw in those five years, I could write one of the tawdriest, most insane books you've ever read.

Short story: My first position there was a cashier. Our store was located next to a grocery store, and I would buy $5 gift certificates for the grocery store and offer them to the homeless people who asked me for change to buy something to eat.

My manager reprimanded me for being an "enabler for lazy, worthless people" and warned me to stop giving to the homeless people around the store or get fired for insubordination. He frequently called the police on the homeless people (who were not standing in front of the store, just out in the parking lot).

10. And some how that....
translates to your disdain for Christ and His people (Christians?) Boy, if there was ever a signal of end times it is such thinking as on this little thread.

11. Wow, thanks for projecting your thoughts on me.
Just because you're standing in a parking lot, it doesn't mean you're an automobile.

The store that I worked at was a particularly "fundie" bookstore. (I was going through my own "fundie" phase at the time, but my stint in this bookstore helped me realize the difference between Christians and "Christians".)

12. Do it!
Write that book, using a Biblical quote as a chapter title and put your experiences in.

Out these "hypocrhistians" and make money in the process.

25. I'm no Bible scholar, but wasn't your boss going against teachings
laid out in the oft quoted 'Leviticus'. You know, the part about giving the surplus of the harvest to the hungry and shelter to those without a home-I read Hypnotoad's comment and if you did write a book, the chapter about this could be called 'Leviticus' :)
That was good of you to help those people with gift certificates.

29. Catholic does not equal Christian
There's a previous post about this, and my brother, once a Catholic now a 'Christian' confirms that all Catholics are going to hell.

15. Uh--just because you're a Christian/Catholic doesn't mean you are stupid.
The man was sending weirdo letters and following him around.
Christians/Catholics get "eww, this guy is a weirdo" vibes too.
The religion doesn't require that you put yourself and your family in a situation like that.

Mel was most famous for playing cool action heroes; AND there was no short supply of high top sneakers in the stores...

I will also be doing Elementary Flag Football in the winter I believe. I'm looking foward to that.

It's really a simple job but every now and then you get an ugly game (I happened to get one my 2nd day on the job)
The thing is I keep hearing parents yelling and telling me how to do my job. Next time I hope they give me a court with no parents :D
