it is one of the states mose segregated cities. It is heavily Democratic in the city and the township is very conservative.

It seemed kind of funky when I visited. Couldn't put my finger on it but now, ya, it seemed that her area wasn't really diverse. Whats up with realestate prices, I was shocked at how low they are.

2. I have waited two years from someone to ask me this question! |

I live in Saginaw and have my whole life. I love living here. The schools are good, we have a zoo, a symphony orchestra and, almost uniquely in the US, a city band which still provides free concerts in the summer. Our waterworks building looks like it belongs on the campus at Oxford. We have the world's largest pink neon jackrabbit. Our city has a franchise in the Ontario Hockey League. Our river runs north. MSchreader also comes from Saginaw. Between us and Bay City Progressive, we should be able to answer any of your questions. What specifically do you want to know? John I think Saginaw's the greatest little city (62,000) in America. But then I live here.

I should have asked a while back then, huh? You sound enthusiastic about your city (You don't work for the chamber do ya?). It sounds like a nice community, a good place to live. My sis likes it, I didn't do much sightseeing when I was there.

I've lived other places but I always wound up back here. I mentioned on another thread today that I live in the house my family bought in 1952 and that my immediate family has lived in since 1961, when I was four. One thing Saginaw is noted for nationally is the affordability of nice housing. A well-kept, three bedroom house in the city sells for around $70,000. Lots of them were built during the 1870s-90s, when Saginaw was the number one lumbering city in the nation. Mine has nine-foot ceilings and oak woodwork and flooring. Famous Saginawians: Sonny Stitt, Stevie Wonder, S Epatha Merkerson, Tim McCoy, Theodore Roethke, Jason Richardson, Question Mark and the Mysterians. John I'll show you some places only the locals know next time you come up. ON EDIT: If by "the township" you mean Saginaw Township, yeah -- that's a LOT whiter and Republican than the city is. In the city, Republicans aren't extinct, exactly -- I think I know two of them.

And, of course, Paul Simon mentioned us in "America." John On top of all its many other virtues, Saginaw has a melodic name. So does Gary, Indiana. Two more folks from Saginaw who are kind of famous: Robert Armstrong, the actor who introduced King Kong to the world in the original movie, and Ray Harroun, who won the first Indianapolis 500.
