For no particular reason, nearly 3 years ago I first posted in a thread asking us to come up with what the initials "G.O.P." really stand for.

My answer included: "Gargantuan Orangutaun Pricks". :D

Then I got serious for a while, with 9-11 discussions, and it was a LONG time before I even invented the yak and got into humorous threads again.

I said (and I still believe this for *public* political conversation) that calling Republicans in general silly names wasn't very helpful because their blue collar voters, in a spin-less world devoid of 'moral' wedge issues, would normally be on our side.

I didn't express myself very clearly and was accused of being a freeper trying to get DU to lighten up on Republican leadership as opposed to just the average voter who is unwittingly voting against his/her best interests.

Spetember 2002. I lurked for a few days and was amazed at a few threads with jackass election odds on midterm races, quoted from media sources. Governors who were sure to win by 20+ points were listed at only 1/5 or 1/10 when it literally should have been 1/100,000. Then there were some senate races with odds that made no sense given the partisan tilt of the state.

I posted late at night; "Ignore those ridiculous odds" with a lengthy explanation that I lived in Las Vegas, worked as a statistical analyst and wagered on sports and politics. Within minutes I received several positive replies welcoming me to DU, first from Frances then some guy who wrote, "Dude, I didn't even understand half of what you wrote, but post more often!"
