I'm listening to a tape of the Guy James show from yesterday. I tape progressive radio from the internet and play it back on cassette when I run, drive, walk the dog, or, in this case, paint.
If you heard the show you are probably aware that it was pre-empted by the station mis-management for a Florida (or State) football game. Consequently, Guy didn't get on the air until about 3:35 when his normal starting time is 3 edt.
As he stated when he started yesterday's show, he wasn't informed of the pre-emptive strike by the football game until five minutes before air time. Having spent close to 30 years in radio myself, I can relate to this type of radio management bully tactic. Besides, most of the station's programming, according to Guy, is, guess what, right wing.
Guy was upset when he took the airwaves but handled it brilliantly. He admitted his anger and frustration because it inconvenience his audience. It take balls to be so forthright on the air, and I have a new respect for Guy James. Also, he didn't overdo it, which is to his credit.
He went on to do a real kick ass show, by the way. Despite missing some previously scheduled guests due to the pre-emption, he really performed well and executed a super show.
Guy stays on the air via contributions. I've decided to contribute since he is obviously a decided asset of the Democratic Party. You can do the same by visiting his web site at
http://www.theguyjamesshow.com/I hope he doesn't get in any trouble with his owners for being so candid on the air. I admire that kind of courage. Then again, that's one of the reasons I'm no longer on the air. Oh well.
Give em hell, Guy!
