I *actually* heard Air America on REAL RADIO for the 1st time tonight.
I live 30 miles north of Nashville. At night, if I'm running errands or picking up dinner for the family, I'll invariably tune the radio up and down the AM dial in a fruitless search to actually hear an Air America affiliate. If the signal makes it into my airspace, I conclude, there's hope.

Tonight was the night that the search was fruitful.

I had the radio on scan, and it stopped on 1690 AM. I knew there's an AAR affiliate in Atlanta, but I've never been able to pick up the signal since there's an oldies station that is apparently closer and/or more powerful. Tonight, the oldies station gave way temporarily to the sound of what I could have sworn was Laura Flanders' voice. I kept the frequency locked in as it traded spaces several times with the oldies station. Finally, I heard an advertisement for Morning Sedition.

Success!

As I've been listening to it on low-quality MP3 download for so long, it blew me away to hear it on an actual radio frequency. Even for a DX signal, it really sounded great.

I keep my fingers crossed and hope that Nashville will get an AAR affiliate sometime in the not-too-distant future. After all, we have an all-talk NPR affiliate.

1. Now that would be cool, hearing AAR on
real radio. The closest to me is Ann Arbor but their signal doesn't get down here.

2. Satellite Radio
I travel a lot and got XM Radio so I wouldn't have to keep seeking for an NPR station or any station in the middle of nowhere. It's great. I've been listening to AAR since it's first day back in March. I got a Roadie (which I can take between vehicles) for about $120 and a 2 year subscription which dropped my monthly rate to around 8 bucks a month. A bargain for me.

I have friends with Sirius and they're very happy with their's also.

4. How Well Does XM Radio Work in the Forest?
I have trouble with the GPS around here, due to all the tall redwoods.

How well does XM work when you are driving in the forest?

6. so close yet so far
I'm less than 20 miles from the Ann Arbor station and I can't get it at night. It's great during the day, but I still need the net for my Malloy fix.

3. We just got AAR in Phoenix.
It's like I've been born-again. I love hearing my old favorites like Malloy and Rhodes. It's wonderful.

5. It's coming
Every market the size of Nashville will have AirAmerica radio sooner than later. Check the radio industry buzz.

They (radio programmers) said it wouildn't work. They were wrong.

7. Air America
Remember, as I'm sure many of you know, you can watch Al Franken's show (an hour of it, anyway) M - F on the Sundance channel. I have learned so much from it-- I live in the SF Bay Area and less than two weeks ago, we got our affiliate!! KQKE-- "The Quake" 960 AM

It's great to hear progressive radio. Apparently O'Reilly absolutely DESPISES Franken and is always ranting and raving about him. It is my great hope that we'll be hearing more and more progressive radio and that right-winger radio will start to disappear.

We want our country back!!!
