The Groove Tube: Trivial Pursuit
Watching the debate Thursday, I was reminded of a skit from a hilarious movie, "The Groove Tube," which came out in 1974. It was a movie by Ken Shapiro, and featured Chevy Chase. I think it influence what would become SNL. There was one skit in particular, about a presidential press conference, with a Bush-like character ranting: "I am the fucking president!! I am in the driver's seat!!"

Do any of you remember that scene? It really should be shown on cable tv, or somewhere similar, because it was about as funny as the chimp saying the same thing during the debate.

I appreciate anyone's contributions on this. My memory is admittedly a little fuzzy about comedy movies I watched in 1974.

3. It was a hilarious film......
and it's funny, I've had a few DUers think I'm joking about being an old man ..... but this should put that debate to rest. Gosh I wish I could remember more about the skit that prophesied the Bush2 presidency.

4. I can't remember much of it ....
except the presidential skit was very Bush-like. I do remember that the early SNL shows were influenced by the Groove Tube.

7. And don't forget "Tunnel vision: The 'No Bullshit' Network"
Skits like "Catholic High School girls in TROUBLE!" and that one about the sit-com with the gypsies, one who seemed a little "cheerful"... "Oh...They grabbed me, and tore my shirt, and urinated all over me!" "Sounds HORRIBLE!" "Yes, I know...I'm going BACK tonight!"

but I can't remember that skit from Groove Tube...

just another fine product from....URANUS!

8. Strange .....
there MUST be some reason that the elders of DU have a memory lapse from the 1974 era ..... it's almost like "fuzzy math" but different ....
