2. I don't even like baseball

3. Never did blame him.
He didn't cost them the game. Some Cubs fans just can't admit their team choked. It's a different ball game if a number of things don't happen, such as Alex Gonzalez booting a double play ball.

4. There were half a dozen other people reaching for that ball.
Not his fault.

Bill Buckner should never have been playing first base either. Ah, well.

Raise your glass to the cursed!

5. Blame the Cubs, not Bartman
If they hadn't choked that game, the incident wouldn't have meant anything. Steve Stone was right, the Cubs really can't take the heat.

"You want the truth. You can't handle the truth," Stone said. "The truth of this situation is an extremely talented bunch of guys who want to look at all directions except where they should really look and kind of make excuses for what happened.

"At the end of the day, boys, don't tell me how rough the water is, you bring in the ship." - Steve Stone

I actually have quite a lot of respect for Steve Bartman. He never did any interviews, never tried to profit from the situation in any way, never attempted to make himself into a celebrity as many others would have. In return, his family and friends were threatened and harrassed, he had to change his phone number, move temporarily and basically hide for three months, all because of a ridiculous baseball game.
