Details on Chicago DU Gathering -- 7 p.m. Tuesday (or when you get there)
Jimmy's Woodlawn Tap
1172 E. 55th St.

Here's the details on the place:

Woodlawn Tap is a scruffy place, and has been since it opened more than 50 years ago. It attracts a diverse clientele -- artists, business people, students from the University of Chicago, construction workers, booksellers and Nobel Prize winners. Regular patrons have included anthropologist Margaret Mead and writers Saul Bellow and Dylan Thomas. Alongside the bottles of scotch and gin there's an encyclopedia and the complete works of William Shakespeare.

Good crowd gonna be there, huh? Me, i'll be eating alone in my room in the Philly area. (Everyone sobs appropriately!)

But, don't let that stop you from having a good time. (Yeah, like it would.)

Have fun everyone. No, really!

12. Well, I'm a few years short of 21
It worked in Europe - considering that the law there isn't enforced at all - but I doubt it will work here. It hasn't in the past x(

18. I'm conscious, at any rate
It went well. We watched Edwards win the debate, and had a freeper encounter on the way out.

How odd. What did he or she have to say? We're they drunk??

22. Right after you left
This guy came stumbling out, talking to BlueJay about Ohio, and let slip that he's a conservative. It lasted about half an hour, with him complaining about the liberal media covering up the 'fact' that we've found WMDs in Turkey and Syria, Saddam's ties to 9/11, and other such nonsense.

23. In Turkey? Turkey?
Why would he care if our friends the Turks had WMD??? If they have them, I'm sure they're just holding them for us.

Sheesh.

I love it when repugs bring up the fact that Iraq had many UN violations and that's enough to invade them. Hell....nobody has more UN violations than our friends the Turks....guess who's #2???

19. We had a great time.
Edited on Wed Oct-06-04 01:23 PM by XNASA
RationalRose, prolesunited, BlueJay, Susang, mkuhl, antiwarwarrior, my old pal Kevin, myself.....let's see....I'm missing someone....(on edit, it was Robbien)

Anyway...we settled into the backroom at Jimmy's on 55th and Woodlawn. The room was filled with mostly U of C students and everyone watched the debate. We all had a good laugh at some of the CC gaffes. The room was decidedly pro-Edwards.

Had a few beers and a couple of laughs. It was great.

Rose is a charming and engaging person. We exchanged a couple of observations about Cambridge as I once lived there, many years ago.

The party broke up around 11. I really love that neighborhood. I need to spend more time in Hyde Park methinks.

20. Thanks, guys!
I was starting to worry what had happened....thinking of calling Cook County Jail (just joking!)

But     and you never quite know where it might lead.
